Who we are

  1. I am Efi, a german teacher. I divide my time between my native city Thessaloniki and Crete. I have always been interested in travel and different cultures and I would like to expand my horizon by visiting new destinations .I used to travel with friends . So we will be 2 people.
We have done 1 home exchange before and I am keen to try what sounds a great way to see another country as a resident - and allow someone to see yours. We would expect to arrange an exchange some way in advance in order to get to know our fellow exchangers via email.
Ι like to learn foreign languages, travelling and cook( gourmet food is a pleasure).
I would prefer to offer my place to 2 adults, non smokers please.
The exchange does not have to be simultaneous as this is a second home.

As a house exchanger, the most important thing for me is that anyone who lives in my home enjoys it and has a good experience here. Making things hospitable and gracious for guests is a great pleasure.

The Venetian house is available from November 2013 to March 2014
I have also a city flat in Thessaloniki in the north of Greece for exchange. It is available from June to August 2013

Welcome to Chania, a beautiful and picturesque city with reminders of the past at every corner. Chania is main town in the west of Crete, with the second largest population(50.000) after Heraklion. It is divided into two parts-the new Town and the Old Town, built around the Venetian harbour with numerous picturesque narrow streets and architecture showing the influence of decades of foreign domination. Recent excavations have established that the ancient city of Kydonia was located here also. The city dates back to the Neolithic period an drecent archaelogical digs on the acropolis of Casteli have uncovered remains of a significant Minoan community. Is now the spiritual capital of the island.
The old, walled town invites the visitor to become lost amongst its theatrical bustle of shops, markets, tavernas, bars and village street life. The town is a beautiful puzzle of Minoan, Venetian and Turkish architecture punctuated by hidden squares.
Among the buildings surrounding the busy little port you will note the older structures of the venetian and the turkish occupation periods, as well as the newer buildings with modern architecture. Here you will also find many memorials to Elefthrios Venizelos, the great, forward looking politician who was born in the village of Mournies and spent a great part of his life in Hania.
There are 5 provinces and 25 administrative regions in the prefecture of Hania(if you include Gavdos). The provinces are Kydonia, Kissamos and Apokoronas in the North and Selino and Sfakia in the South.
Hania has a beach in town (towards the western end of the town) and couple of beaches a little further to the West(within walking distance).
Casteli (the Castle)
The old town of Chania includes areas such as the Topana, the Santrivani the Spantzia and the Casteli. Originally the town of Chania was built on and around Casteli, surrounded by the Byzantine Wall. There were built the mansions of the older Venetian families. The architecture of these mansions was influenced by the current styles, particularly by that of the Venetian Manierism in the 16th century. On the same site was also built the great Venician cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary destroyed in the bombings of 1941.
Western Crete is a real paradise for the active traveler offering a large network of ancient trails and shepherd paths for the walker, a wealth of quiet back roads with stunning views for the cyclist and great underwater sites for the diver.
The mild Mediterranean climate, the renowned Cretan diet, the acquaintance with local traditions and the warm hospitality of the islanders are always pleasant highlights.
