Our home

This home is open, international and situated in excellent place for visitors who like enjoy beautiful nature in archipelago. The part of the house has been rented for tourists for 7 years now. The summer 2014 we changed our home for the first time. Since 2014 we have changed our home with five families. Because of tourist accommodation we have own website see our homepage, where you can get more information about us (meriharakka.fi). Pictures on own website are of course taken only of tourist side of the house.

Because of summer renting we have one main kitchen and two mini ones and one bathroom and two toilets. The main house is 129 m2 and the garage-section (how we call extra accommodation) 40m. The distance to little "beach" (place to swim) and sea shore is 50 meters.

Who we are

  1. We are little but extended family. Mother Outi, one kid (9 year old) and grandmother Lea. We are also very close to the families of two brothers and one sister. Sometimes we take one of my brothers kids with us, so the own child has company. We like other cultures, languages, travelling, good food, nature and countryside. Mother is leading social projects as her job, the child is going 4th class at primary school. The grandmother is retired, but still more or less working. I've (mother) been doing volunteer work in village action movement, also helped a lot with young refugees to settle down our country. We have had refugees living at our home too.

We are looking place more in the countryside than in urban areas, still we open for different offers. If there is national parks, hiking areas or other recreational places nearby it's plus for us.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live in a little village Velkua, 24 kilometers from Naantali and 42 kilometres from Turku. There is 260 villagers living here all year around, but much more at the summer time, when all people come to visit their summer cottages. There is about 250 islands in Velkua, but only 8 of these are inhabited. You don't need ferry to reach our home because of many bridges, but you need to have a car, because the bus connections are so poor.

We have two yellow ferries to reach two of the main islands and one boat (Ms Kivimo) the reach other inhabited islands. Ferries and boat Kivimo are free to use.

This is not busy place. If you seek good restaurants, busy nightlife and shopping this is NOT the right place. We have good restaurants but they are mainly in Turku and Naantali. If you seek place to rest, go walking, jogging or hiking a bit, swimming, reading or peaceful place for writing this is the place! You see The Baltic Sea 120 degrees out of windows and you won't see too much people around.

The distance to nearest airport (Turku) is 1 hour by car, 3 hours to airports of Helsinki-Vantaa and Pirkkala (Tampere). Norwegian is flying to Helsinki-Vantaa airport. There is good connection to reach Turku by train and buses from Helsinki and Tampere. The easiest and cheapist way to come here is normally to fly Helsinki.

Good place to visit nearby with kids:
Muumimaailma/Moomin world http://www.moominworld.fi
