Our home

We offer a large and comfortable family home in Kouvola region (Southern Finland). Our home is a traditional Finnish wooden house with a big garden. Our spacious home is on two levels. On the ground floor there is living room, dining room, small but fully equipped kitchen, single bedroom, bathroom, sauna and toilet. Upstairs there are two rather big bedrooms, one with double bed and one with beds for 3-4 children, and another toilet. Our large basement is used for storage, and there is also a small utility room.
There are plenty of toys for children (mainly boys) both in the house and out in the garden. Our home is made for a big family, for example the dinner table is for ten people.
Our garden is huge, about 2000 sq m, and it is perfect for playing and relaxing. There are many big trees and large grass areas, a gas barbeque and an outdoor fireplace, a big trampoline with safety net, hammock, swings, a slide and a sandpit for smaller children, etc. We have many bicycles for children and adults.

SUMMER 2008 ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE.

Who we are

  1. We are a married couple, Taina (35) and Anssi (39). We have five children; daughter (15) and four sons (13, 13, 7 and 5). I am studying International Business. I like foreign languages and cultures, I speak English, Swedish, Russian and a bit of German, and of course Finnish. Politics is also my thing, I am a member of the local council. Anssi is more practical, he likes sports, motorbikes and fixing things – he spends a lot of time in his garage e.g. repairing bikes and building little things. Our children are well behaving, and very excited about swapping houses with another family! They have some allergies, so we are hoping that you don’t have any pets.
Finland is certainly worth a visit, and we are more than happy to give you more information about our country and it’s possibilities!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live in a village called Koria. It is a part of Elimäki municipality, which is rural area with about 8500 inhabitants. The landscapes are peaceful, plenty of fields and forests and the beautiful river Kymi running very close to our house. All the basic services you will find in the village within 500 meters from the house (eg two grocery shops, bank, post office, library, swimming pool, pizzeria, two pubs, hairdressers, school playground, sports field and so on). Most of the people here speak good English.
The nearest town is Kouvola, about 6km from here. Buses run about once an hour, the nearest bus stop is right next to our house. It takes about 15 minutes to cycle there. Biking routes are marked and in very good shape. Kouvola is a town of 30700 inhabitants and there you will find all the services you will need, from theatre to the amusement park. You can go there shopping or for a night out, for more information and pictures of the region check these pages: http://www.kouvolanseudulle.fi/default.asp?kieliID=2.
Our region provides many possibilities for an active holiday; hiking, cycling, fishing, swimming, playing golf etc. In winter time skiing, ice-skating, downhill skiing, snowboarding, ice-fishing and so on. Finland is very warm and beautiful in the summer, and there are many lakes and clean beaches nearby. At winter we usually have a lot of snow and the weather is quite cold (below zero anyway). Feel free to ask us for more details and pictures by email!
