Our home

Our home is a comfortable stylish townhouse, located in a quiet and respectable area, just 10 km from the Helsinki city centre. Close to many of Helsinki's touristic attractions, cafes and shopping precincts, but also to relaxing natural sources, the river, forest, fields, etc. Our home is featuring a light-filled large living and dining area, whose big windows give onto a green garden, large enough for a family barbeque, children's play, or to other entertain. We have 3-4 bedrooms (two of which are normally used as a study/writing area but both have also single beds) and one bathroom (2 toilets). In case you like sauna, we have a very nice traditional one, heated with wood. Our house can sleep up to 6 people but 4 people can be accommodated very comfortably.

At the moment, we'd be interested in travelling to USA in the winter/spring 2011 (New England or Connecticut, also California and some other places would be possible), but we are also open to other kinds of offers. Paris is always on our travelling hit list, as well as Rome and some other Italian cities (cannot stop going back again and again...)

Who we are

  1. We are Anita, 41 years, Helena (49 years), and a small baby girl Tilla (2 1/2 years ). Anita is an art researcher, Ph.D., and has also worked as a professor of the visual culture studies in the University of Arts and Design. Helena is an author and poet, who has also translated much poetry, essays, etc. We enjoy art galleries, classical music, books, cafes, nature, etc. We have done a home exchange only once so far with an Australian family, who were really great, and will go to Spain this year for the second one. Naturally, we will look after your home as if it were our own.

We are open to long-term exchange offers and non-simultaneous exchanges as well.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The area is regarded as an upper middle class townhouse area, and is very easy-going, safe, and quiet. Yet, there are many parks around for children, Vantaa-river within 1 km walk, and very relaxing green surroundings all over for those who like to walk, etc. Buses run every 15-20 minutes throughout the day and night to the city centre (ab. 30 min drive, depending on traffic).

Helsinki, "the pearl of the Baltic sea" is a situated on a seashore and has culturally rich life to offer. It is also a great base from which to explore other Scandinavian countries, Baltic countries, Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow within few hours journey by train) and Lappland (1 hour by airplain), where the Santa Claus lives. :)

The possibilities for skiing in Finland are good in the winter time. Helsinki has often snow in January-March, but if the weather happens to be mild, there are several skiing centers within a 100km distance from the city. Summers are very nice, full of light and sun (mainly), and not too hot for anyone. We can also consider car exchange.
