Our home

My condominium is in the heart of downtown Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, also known as the city of flowers. It is on the 15th. floor and thus has a magnificent panoramic view of the Olympic Mountains in the USA and of the local hills and sea, as well as of the whole of downtown.
It is a very comfortable and calming apartment. Everyone who has ever stayed here is overwhelmed by the peacefulness induced by the view, even though there are the usual city noises round about. There is a large kitchen (with eating area) and also a dining room. Access to the internet from the main computer, with wireless access for your own laptop if required. The washer/dryer are in-suite. Thousands of books to read if all you want to do is relax.

Who we are

  1. I am a university professor, with grown-up children living in London, Paris, Vancouver and here in Victoria. I am from Wales originally and am about to retire, so my time is my own, and therefore I can exchange and travel at virtually any time of the year. I would prefer an exchange with someone in (1) (UK: London, North Wales, West of England, Shropshire); (2) France: (Paris, and virtually anywhere South of Paris all the way to Nice) (3) Spain, anywhere, (4) Portugal (anywhere), and (5) Mexico (anywhere but Mexico City).

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The apartment is within four blocks of all the main downtown stores and activities. Easy walking distance to the most beautiful city park in the whole of Canada, Beacon Hill Park. Lots of restaurants nearby, from high-end dining all the way down to Macdonald's. Plenty of cheap public transportation, many cycling lanes on the city main roads, and lots of trails for hiking or bicycling. Although Vancouver is the largest city in British Columbia, Victoria, the capital, is the most beautiful. You can visit innumerable wineries on the lower part of Vancouver Island, and a visit to the Gulf Islands is a must. Whale watching is popular and safe. In fact, this city is probably the safest (in all senses) in the whole of North America. The weather in Victoria is very mild all through the year. It is on the same latitude as Paris, and its climate is rather similar to that of Cornwall or Devon. Only 26 inches of rain a year, though global warming seems to be reducing even that small amount. Snow is almost unheard-of in Victoria, a matter for newspaper headlines if and when it does snow.
