Our home

Our home is large warm and inviting. The upstairs has two bedrooms and a full office with fax, internet, copier etc. A good size kitchen with ajoining dining room. It is fully carpeted and the living room has big puffy leather furniture and a wonderful satelite stereo system. The dining room leads out to a large deck with a BBQ overlooking a fully fenced back yard. Huge full grown, aromatic cedar trees dominate the yard and give a shady forestlike feel. We have two bedrooms up with a TV DVD and VHS in the Master, plus two kids bedrooms down. Downstairs also has a large TV room with VHS and DVD. This is a family house to have fun in and be comfortable in. Fire up the BBQ and have a cool drink on the deck or curl up on the sofa downstairs and watch TV. There's lots of room for everyone. We are in a great residential neighborhood but are extremely close to shops, malls, restaurants, highways etc. We also have a large community center within 5 minutes walk that has indoor swimming, ice skating, exercise and weight rooms etc.

Who we are

  1. We are Dave, Leanne and three kids, a family of five with a yearning to travel... while the kids are old enough to know their manners, and young enough to still use them. Leanne and I are in our early forties and the children are 11,9,and 6. Leanne is in school in the medical feild and I have always been self employed. We do have a cat (Marbles) that would need to be fed but have our regular babysitter who's more than willing if you're not.
We are looking to home swap in Cairns Australia for July through August 2006. We have lots of family in southern Queensland to visit but want to relax by ourselves for a month or so in the north. The whole family would love Cairns because of the water, beaches, sun and fun, while I have a special interest in kiteboarding that I need to satisfy periodically. We have not home swapped before but are very game and think it's a fantastic idea. We would love to get to know whoever we swap with and think this is a great way for a family to get some quality travel time in another country. We have a large air conditioned vehicle (8 passenger suburban) that would be great for a large family and all their gear.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We are in a nice residential neighborhood withing a 5 minute walk to groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, banks, liquor store etc. As well as a community center with indoor swimming, ice skating, exercise and weight rooms. We are about a 5 minute drive to the US border, 1 1/2 hours from Seattle. We live about two minutes from Trans Canada Hwy.#1. This is the main arterial highway through southern BC and makes it easy to get just about anywhere. We are about 50 minutes from downtown Vancouver. 2 1/2 hours from summer skiing or golf at Whistler. We are 10 minutes from our local Abbotsford international airport with excellent inexpensive regional service through "Westjet". We are also about 1 hour from the Vancouver airport.
Things to do locally are almost endless so some websurfing on your part will help a great deal but here are a couple "must do" things.
During August the Abbotsford International Airshow is held here for three days. It hosts a huge number of military and civilian aircraft from all over the world. An awesomely loud and fast spectacle. Also during August is the Pacific National Exhibition. Loads of fun for two weeks with live shows, displays, rides, casino, arcade boardwalk, horse shows and livestock exhibition and live motorsport shows.
You can take a ferry to Victoria and explore Vancouver Island. Go to the Rockie mountains, Banff or Jasper. Endless possibilities. Abottsford is a great jumping off point for all the west coast destinations.
