Our home

My home is cozy but comfortable and very quiet - ideal for a retreat holiday. The cottage overlooks terraced gardens sloping down to a sweep of green meadow encircled by towering fir trees. It is sunny and spacious with large south facing windows. Skylights illuminate the combined kitchen and living area which includes a couch and dining table.
There is one bedroom with a queen bed, and the bright bathroom has a clawfoot tub and shower. There is also a den/studio and a small sleeping loft.

The kitchen is simple but functional, with a two-burner propane stove, toaster oven and small fridge, along with an electric kettle and rice cooker.
There is a separate laundry room with washer and dryer. My home comes with two very cuddly kitties, Zorra and Mr. Purr who love companionship!

Property features

Who we are

  1. I am a single mother with a son, Orin, a college student, and a daughter, Elora, age 27, who works as a designer in New York. My children grew up in Bali, Indonesia where I lived for 28 years before moving back to Canada. In Bali I was a jewellery designer creating unusual pieces of jewellery which are sold in galleries around the world. Here on Salt Spring I am teaching and directing childrens theatre and writing children's stories based on my experiences living and travelling in Asia. We have all travelled extensively, and these days only occasionally manage to coordinate our schedules so that we can meet up somewhere. I have organized several house swaps with my home in Bali over the years and have found it a fun and convenient way to experience new places.

We are looking for a place in the Seattle area to get together for family visits because my son attends college there, but we are always open to suggestions.

My almost-acre property is located just off a dead-end road on a small quiet cul-de-sac at the top of a winding mountain road. It backs on 100 acres of forest trails with ocean views. A beautiful swimming and canoeing lake is within walking distance and several ocean beaches are 10 minutes by car. Salt Spring Island is a favorite tourist destination year-round, dotted with artists' studios which are open to the public. Ganges, a 10 minute drive from my home, is famous for its Saturday market where local artisans and organic farmers display their wares. The streets of this quaint fishing village are lined with interesting shops and galleries. There are several yoga studios and spas on the island offering various kinds of
classes and treatments. Salt Spring offers a variety of scenic hiking trails, there are seven lakes for swimming and canoeing, and kayaking trips are available in several locations. The island can be reached from Vancouver, Victoria and Vancouver Island by ferry.
