Our home

Our one storey rancher sits on an large corner lot, with a treehouse, slide and swing for the kids, and lots of space for outdoor living, including two patios and a hot tub, for the adults. Our home is about 20-30 minutes outside of downtown Vancouver, and is within walking distance of the Skytrain, or get there even faster from the bus stop right outside our peaceful, private backyard. Port Moody is a charming area, with lots of opportunities for hiking and lakes, public pools and beaches nearby for swimming. All the amenities you need are close by, and there are mountain views from several rooms in the house.

We have a toddler daughter, whose bedroom is equipped with a twin bed with guard rail. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, and French doors open onto the patio & hot tub. The third bedroom has a queen sized bed and currently serves as our guest room.

The recreation, or family room, has a large, mounted, flat-screen TV connected to basic cable for news etc, as well as to a Playstation, which allows you access to Netflix and Amazon Prime (another streaming service). There is also a safe play area for children. This room has sliding glass doors which provide great light and breezes in the summer, and allow access to the patio and backyard. There is a small, two piece bathroom off this room as well.

Who we are

  1. We’re a couple with a three year old daughter. I am 42 and Greg is 41.

  2. We are both secondary school teachers in our local district. Greg has recently been seconded to Simon Fraser University where he has been instructing pre-service teachers, as well as completing a doctorate in Education.

  3. We love travel, art, and culture as well as being outdoors and in nature. We have travelled extensively around Europe, Canada, as well as some Asian and southern destinations. We had a wonderful first house exchange to France in the summer of 2019 and look forward to many more opportunities to travel overseas with our daughter, and welcome exchange partners into our home.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our home is located in the neighbourhood of Glenayre, in the city of Port Moody, British Columbia. Glenayre is an idyllic community located at the base of Burnaby Mountain, where you can hike to Simon Fraser University at the top of the mountain (about a 60 minute hike from our house). There are many other trails that you can access on Burnaby Mountain directly from our home. The community of Glenayre was originally built in the late 1950s, and still has the charm and neighbourliness of that bygone era. The lots are large and private, and the original homes are quaint. There are parks and playgrounds, including a small water park all within a short, peaceful walk within the neighbourhood.

As the city has grown around it, Glenayre remains a private, quiet gem, that now has access to the Skytrain, which can whisk you into downtown Vancouver in about twenty minutes. The Skytrain can also take you to downtown Port Moody, which is another charming area with lots of independent shops, restaurants and flourishing local breweries and food trucks. You also have access to Rocky Point, a park that hosts numerous festivals, bands, etc throughout the summer. This park also has walking trails, playgrounds and a large water park. Beyond the commercial district, you will find more walking and hiking trails, as well as lakes and small beach areas for swimming. This is a beautiful area in which to spend the summer, with warm weather and lots to do outdoors.
