Our home

We live in a single-story bungalow with lots of windows. The living-room spans the width of the house and features a large fireplace. The adjacent dining-room easily accommodates eight persons. A counter separates cooking and eating areas in the recently expanded kitchen. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, an ensuite bath and a walk-in closet. Also on the main level are two smaller bedrooms and a bathroom. In the basement are two other bedrooms, a bathroom, a sitting room as well as various unfinished workrooms and storage areas.
A bank of windows and three doors open onto a deck extending across the back of the house. Beyond the lawn and garden is a park with play structures for children and a field used for sports and a rink in winter. We have two bicycles and a canoe for your use.

Who we are

  1. We are active retirees with many interests including travel and foreign cultures. Bob taught Chemistry at nearby Carleton University and Peggy was a researcher in education. We have lived in our house for 45 years although now spend the summer at our cottage in New Brunswick. Our two sons and their families live in Ottawa and are able to help visitors to our house.
We enjoy the many advantages of living in the Canada's capital city such as visiting art galleries and national museums as well as attending theatre and concerts at the National Arts Centre or embassy-sponsored cultural events. Skating on the Rideau Canal and skiing in the Gatineau are favourite winter pastimes. There are several music festivals and a variety of regional fairs during summer. We also like exploring the many nearby places of interest such as Montreal, historic Kingston on the St. Lawrence River or Lake Placid in the USA.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our immediate neighbourhood is strictly residential and very peaceful. A major attraction is the nearby Rideau River where canoes and kayaks are launched. About 1 km. down river, the large park at Mooney'€™s Bay includes a sandy beach for swimming as well as tennis courts. Local bike trails follow the river and the canal to the center of the city and then continue for miles along the Ottawa River or across a bridge to routes in Quebec and the Gatineau Park.
It takes about 40 minutes for us to drive from home to the Gatineau Park which is a prime recreation area. A large system of trails is used for hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. There are several lakes with beaches, canoe rentals and overnight camping. The alpine ski facilities cater to all levels of skiers and in autumn provide lifts for viewing the splendid colours of the maple trees.
Our neighbourhood is about a 5 minute drive away from a shopping center although there are some shops and restaurants even closer. It is a 15 minute drive (or about 45 minutes by bike) to the market, stores and restaurants in the center of Ottawa.
