Our home

This large, bright, ninth floor, southeast facing apartment right on the waterfront of North Vancouver has two big bedrooms and separate den, and enjoys spectacular views over the North Shore mountains and beautiful Burrard Inlet (Vancouver Harbour). The "Seabus" at our door takes us across to the heart of downtown Vancouver in 15 minutes, and the new Canada Line light rapid transit, built for the 2010 Olympics, takes us to the airport in less than an hour, door-to-door. The apartment is fully equipped and secure, with limited access indoor parking and an exercise room/sauna in the building. It also includes a baby grand piano. Next door to the Lonsdale Quay market and other shopping (supermarket, drugstore, liquor store across the street), with excellent restaurants nearby. Hiking trails within walking distance; golf and skiing within a few minutes' drive. An all-year-round place. In addition, we have a studio condo on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which can be included in an exchange or is available for rental at a modest price.

Who we are

  1. Gordon retired from the Canadian Foreign Service in 1999 and has since devoted his time to mainly voluntary activities; associated with university research institutes in Vancouver and Victoria and the Canadian International Council. Kazuko is an artist and art dealer, specializing in Asian contemporary art. We love to travel to exotic places. Our two children, one living in Vancouver, the other in California, make their living in film and in the arts. Our main interests are the theatre, music, art and travel. Our favorite outdoor activity is hiking the North Shore mountains near our home.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The waterfront area of North Vancouver is being transformed into a well-designed, planned, environmentally sensitive urban centre, with new apartment complexes, shopping and restaurants. It faces the gorgeous harbour of Vancouver, recently voted by the Economist as the most liveable city in the world and by Conde Nast as the best tourist destination in the Americas. We are surrounded by parks and water, with excellent public transit. The ferry landing for travel to Vancouver Island (Victoria) and other destinations is a 15-minute drive away. We are less than two hours from Whistler Resort, the site of the 2010 Olympics. Summer is best, but winter is fine too: mild and somewhat rainy, but when it is raining here, it is snowing on three nearby ski slopes: 20 minutes' drive from our door.
