Our home

Large comfortable early Victorian duplex apartment in fashionable village of Little Venice in central London full of antiques and paintings. On the ground floor there is a huge drawing room with piano and satelite t.v and at the library end of the room a desk and broadband computer. An enormous double bedroom with triple windows leads out from a little balcony to famous 4 acre communal gardens; there is an ajoining power shower/toilet. Downstairs there are 2 more double bedrooms with bathrooms ensuite ;one very large, and another small bedoom/studio for a child/teenager. the large farmhouse kitchen is warm and well equipped and leads out into the gardens through a small patio and gate. It is light, spacious and interesting and our previous exchangers have loved it...one family even came back three times

Suzy is an actress/teacher who loves her work but also loves raising the kids and having lots of people round the kitchen table for supper. Emma is 23, a music graduate and a jazz singer:myspace/emmatopolskimusic . Tamsin is 19, studying Drama at university and a talented dance student and musician. Luke is 13 at international school. He loves playing with his friends in the garden, is a great swimmer and has to be peeled off the computer sometimes. They are all bi-lingual in French as they have all studied at the French Lycee here in London, the girls also speak Spanish and Luke German also. We love travelling and have found house exchange a very positive experience.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Little Venice was named by the Victorian poet Robert Browning because the beautiful white architecture and canal boats reminded him of the Italian city. Apart from the normal shops there are lots of cafes and restaurants nearby and the area has a villagey feel although it is so close to the centre of town. We are well served by both buses and tubes, but I often walk if I am feeling energetic, bring your trainers! London is a great city to walk in. Notting Hill, St Johns Wood, Hampstead and Regents Park are all wonderful and nearby. There is also a big daily market 15 minutes walk away which is also home to one of the most important indoor antique markets in London; fab cafe on the roof too. The gardens are amazing at the back of our home and a completely secure childrens haven. They are the 3rd largest gardens in London...the biggest belongs to the Queen! There is a small playground right in the middle and children easily make new friends. Our children live in the garden in the summer and we too have met lots of great people. Its friendly, international and supportive. Its a green oasis of calm in the middle of one of the biggest most dynamic cities in the world and everyone here appreciates how lucky they are. We have been here for nearly 22 years and we love it.
