Our home

Our house is a typical "maison du maitre" from the early 20th century but totally modernised keeping its authentic details like a mosaic floor, very high ceilings and large rooms. The house' s facade looks very narrow but once coming in you are surprised how spacious the interiour is! As we are with three little children there are plenty of toys (especially Lego), in the garage we have a table tennis table and a soccer table and we can put our bikes in there. We normally leave our car outside as thanks to our garage we always have a parking place in front of the house!(quite worth to mention in the City as it can take a lot of time and nerves to look for a parking place)Further we have a small cosy terrace (about 30 m2) where you can sit outside, having a barbeque and enjoying the nice evening sun.

Who we are

  1. We are a German family living in Belgium for several years now. My husband Falk is a Landscape-architect and me, Barbara, works in Brussels in the EU institutions. Our three children Lukas (2006), Hanna (2011)and Charlotte (2014) were all born in Antwerp. We love travelling and our children ask when the next guests are coming! Please don´t hesitate to contact us, we are open for all destinations. We think that swapping houses is the ideal way not only enjoying and discovering new places with its cultures but also sharing the same spirit. Respecting each others houses goes without saying!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We are living in a very charming district of Antwerp with great architecture full of "maisons du maitre". While our house is in a quiet street, cosy restaurants and bars are just nearby. Should you fancy a picnic there is a lovely small parc nearby with a lovely playground for children and a nice cafe for the adults where you can enjoy the great Belgian beer. For the every day life you can do everything on foot or by bike so that you don´t need a car within the city. The old city centre with its cathedral is 20 minutes walk or you take the tram which stops near to our house. You can also visit some great Museums like the MAS, a museum listed in the Top Ten list of the world! There are plenty of things to do with children, there are a lot of parcs, a Zoo and very child friendly musea. In order to enjoy some maritime feeling you should go to the city harbour "het eilandje". In summer there is a cultural festival called "Zomer van Antwerpen" which offers a lot of spectacles. Further, Antwerp is ideally located for some day trips to Gent, Bruges, Brussels and even Amsterdam (1,5 h drive). The Thalys stops in Antwerp and brings you even to Paris within 3 hours. The lovely Dutch coast you can reach within one hour drive. And last but not least even Germany (Cologne) is not too far. You see, Antwerp is probably not that much known but has a lot of hidden treasures. It's time to discover it!
