Our home

Our home is simple, sunny and warm in Winter and cool in Summer, with a holiday feel, surrounded by native trees - quiet. Our balconies overlook parkland & lap pool/children's pool. There are 1 queen, 1 double, 2 bunk beds. We are located just 500 meters to our surfing beach (Pacific Ocean)that is 20 kilometres long and restaurant/bar, and 1.2klm to the village of Rainbow Beach. FRASER ISLAND is half an hour away! We are just 1.5 hours by road from Sunshine Coast city and airport and 2.5 hours from Brisbane city and airport. There are many day trips or overnight stays with beautiful varied scenery (ocean, waterways, lakes, farmland, mountains) all within 200 klms of our home. The famous Gold Coast is just 4 hours drive on mostly 4 lane motorway. Coaches travel to/from 3 times per day north to Cairns and south to Sydney, which are under 2 days travel by road. Air travel time from Sunshine Coast, or Brisbane to Sydney, Melbourne or the Great Barrier Reef is just 2 to 4 hours. You will be disappointed if you need shopping centres, theatres or KFC! Our town is 1,000 people and swells on holidays to 4,000. We enjoy a moderate to tropical climate. Winter temperatures from 8 to 25 degrees and Summer 18 to 30 degrees. Our house is built to enjoy cool breezes in summer. Our pool is enjoyed by us daily from September to May, although some Europeans enjoy swimming during our Winter!! Free internet access.

Who we are

  1. We are John & Annie (RETIRED). We have 4 adult children and 10 grandchildren, all living within 3 hours from our home. When travelling overseas we prefer small towns/villages. We usually have a hire car so require parking. We love to get to know people in their own environments, eat your food, drink your wine and learn and enjoy your ways of life. Our exchange does not need to be simultaneous. Anywhere and any time is good for us. We are always flexible this end. We are 'people people'. Travel, meeting new people is our highlight. We, of course, do other things. We swim, kayak, sail, play golf, enjoy our family, friends and neighbours. This is our first house swap but have travelled extensively. We will care for your home as we do ours.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Rainbow Beach is surrounded by National Parks. There are no footpaths in our suburb of Rainbow Shores. We walk and cycle on the streets as there is a 40km per hour driving limit. There are only 7 streets. There are 100metre walkways to the beach. The housing is a mixture of permanent residents and family holiday homes. It is a very quiet intimate suburb except on Christmas morning and New Year's Eve!! Most of the permanent residents get together once a month on the beach to enjoy a 'Full Moon Party' around a dug-out fire on the beach. They will welcome you! We all bring food and wine and enjoy catching up. Fraser Island (the largest sand island in the world) which is world heritage listed is just 12 klms away. A barge can take you across to Fraser Island (15 minutes) on a day tour on a coach, a day of four wheel driving or for a longer stay at one of the resorts or camping spots where there are cabins, tent sites or 4 star accommodation. Dolphins, dugong, turtles, crabs, dingos, goannas and 20 species of native birds reside in our neighbourhood. Boating, fishing, crabbing are favourite passtimes of the locals and visitors as we live between the Pacific Ocean (400mtrs) to the east and the Great Sandy Straits (1 klm) to the west and direct access to world class Wolf Rock diving. Handfeed wild dolphins 30 minutes away by ferry or car. We do not have department stores, museums, theatres and fast food outlets although there are shops that provide us with all our requirements e.g. food, alcohol, surfwear, boutique, restaurants, cafes, fuel, hardware, camping gear etc. This is not a holiday for people wanting those things that a city can provide. Our town is more suited to those who love peace and quiet, natural open environment, who are looking for Australian bush/ocean/sea adventures. You do not have to be fit to enjoy our surrounds, but there are lots of short /long walks/drives through the National Parklands to lakes and forests which surround us. Four-wheel drive vehicles can be hired and driven on our beaches and on Fraser Island. see GOOGLE EARTH: Rainbow Shores Drive, Rainbow Beach, Australia
