Our home

Our apartment is one block from Four Mile Beach and a short stroll to the pubs and restaurants on the main street of the village. It is in a block of 8 units which has a large swimming pool and bar-b-que facilities. The apartment consists of two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed. One bedroom includes a desk with internet connection and a TV with CD/VCR player. The bathroom contains a washer and dryer, and shower only (no bathtub). The kitchen is fully equipped, with microwave, oven, stove, fridge and all required cooking utensils. In the living room there is a large satellite TV, a VCR and a desk with internet connection and printer/fax/copier. Off the living room is a balcony that sits under a canopy of tropical trees where many birds and butterflies can be spotted. The apartment is quite small and would not suit more than two (or 3 max) people. It is fully air-conditioned (heating is not necessary).

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are John and Sally, an active, retired couple who live with a cat named Paisley. John is a retired Geophysics professor and Sally is a retired nurse. We are hoping to exchange with someone who is willing to live in our small apartment with our cat, Paisley. She is an indoor cat and spends most of her time eating and sleeping. We are animal lovers and would be happy to look after someone else's dogs and/or cats. We would like to be able to communicate via email with interested parties. People who would be interested in this exchange would be those who seek a warm climate with good restaurants and a sunny spot on the beach. Viewing Port Douglas online would be a good idea, as it is a well-known tourist destination.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Port Douglas is a picturesque village on the Coral Sea in Tropical North Queensland. It is 60 km north of Cairns Airport along a road that offers spectacular views of rainforest mountains reaching down to the Coral Sea. The village of Port Douglas has retained the charm of a small fishing village, where no building is higher than a palm tree. A stroll down the main street of Macrossan Street takes you from the Inlet (and world class marina) to Four Mile Beach, where you can watch the sun rise over the Coral Sea. There are many fine restaurants, bookshops, cafes, pubs and boutique shops along Macrossan street. All of the dining is outdoors as the average daily temperature is between 25-30c.

Port Douglas is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest. Things to do in Port Douglas include:
•Snorkel or dive on the Great Barrier Reef
•Take a Daintree River or reef cruise
•Go on a 4WD safari to Cape Tribulation
•Skyrail to Kuranda (a village at the top of the rainforest)
•Experience the Mossman Gorge
•Golf /Swim/Hike/Cycle/Boat/Fish
•Sunday markets
•Bush walking and bird watching
The warm waters of the Coral Sea offer some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world. There is generally good visibility which allows a clear view of the many marine animals. The Rainforest is an ancient area that has been in existence for more than 120 million years, and contains some plant and animal species not seen anywhere else in the world
