Our home

Our home is a 2 storey brick house on a large garden and overlooks Kettering Cove on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Facing north with large windows, it is sunny and warm, and additional heating is provided by instant gas heaters, electricity and electric blankets on beds. Upstairs there are 4 main rooms, 3 large bedrooms with dressing rooms, bathroom with bath and shower, and separate toilet. A large balcony opens off the upstairs foyer, a delightful place for breakfast or morning coffee, looking north across the yachting activity below. There is also a library and computer room carpeted with some of the Sydney Opera House carpet which the builder designed! Downstairs there are two living rooms, and a guest room with ensuite, 2 dining areas, kitchen with gas top and electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator with freezer, roomy bench tops, and an electric barbecue outside near the south patio. On the north side is a pergola for lunches on warm days, also looking across to the eucalpypt clad hills and down the bay to the busy yachting activity in the Channel. There is a local pub just across the way, and crayfish may be for sale on the in coming fishing boats.

Who we are

  1. We are happy retirees, who love to travel, and its time we explored further. An ex-teacher and a minister, we are very careful and responsible house carers/exchangers and have some referees in U.K. who have been here and know our home. I love to garden. We will plan on being overseas for say 6 weeks or so at a time.

Our quiet Kettering has been DISCOVERED. The 30 million splendid marina is nearly completed, below our place.
I am trying to contact Christian and Brigitte in Normandy. Please look over our home and get in touch - I think about March 2011 could be a good time for you and us?

Your neighbourhood

Almost half of beautiful Tasmania is World Heritage forest, abounding in walking trails and drives. This house is within easy reach of the Tahune Air Walk, Recherche Bay, Huon Valley Wine Trail, Peppermint Bay Restaurant and a number of other specialty restaurants and cafes offering our fantastic local foods, seafoods and wines. Hobart is famed for its Salamanca Market Saturdays, with a cosmopolitan gathering of crafts people, exotic food merchants and musicians. All week you can browse for high quality Tasmanian furniture, both new and antique, the fascinating waterfront activity and Mount Wellington hovers above, an easy half hour drive (take a warm coat!) Kettering has just been discovered again, and a very extensive new marina has attracted several hundred yachts which find the Channel wonderful cruising groundsOut of Kettering you may hire kayaks and gear for round the bay, or organise fishing in the Channel, or high speed excursions to the Iron Pot at the mouth of the Derwent where early migrants fist saw and smelt their new homeland lush with wattles, blackwood and eucalypts. Rugged types may walk the Cradle Mt Trail, or the South West Trail to Port Davey - pioneering country, or drive to the wild West Coast to see the unique Huon Pine growing in rain forests, some 3000 years old. If you like to visit the big cities Melbourne is a one hour flight away, $69 at times, or Sydney a 2 hour flight, $89 at present. Happy days!
