Who we are

  1. My name is Marguerite and I am a retired academic. I have done a lot of travelling and speak fluent Japanese and much less fluent French as well as my native English. I am interested in the whole world and everything in it except economics. Living in Japan you learn an appreciation of beautiful things made by craft. I love my house, my dog, my brother's family and my friends. Sometimes they go with me when I travel, especially my nephew Danny, a lovely sixteen year old, and my friend Terrie-Lynn, a woman of my age.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

My place is a four bedroom house in Wollongong on the South Coast of NSW ("The Leisure Coast"), on the escarpment of the Great Dividing Range, suburban but surrounded by trees, located in bush setting with spectacular range of Australian birds. The back deck overlooks a creek. It is a few miles from some of the best beaches in Australia, (gorgeous - some of Australia's best international surfers come from Wollongong ) swimming, diving, surfing, gliding, parasailing, bushwalking, including North Wollongong Beach famous for fossilised wood, a few miles from Lake Illawarra (prawn fishing, sailing, yacht Club, water skiing etc.,) national parks, Minnamurra Rainforest where we saw a lyrebird displaying (that is doing a song and dance routine for the ladies) last July. The climate here is probably the best in Australia. It is cool, blue, dry and sunny in winter and warm, with the occasional hot day, in summer.

Wollongong has a lot of Clubs - a NSW institution - with poker machines and good food. You need a car or the bus to get to these places but I have a car. It is a 1.5 hour spectacularly beautiful train trip to Sydney which has everything you could want in the world. The house has wheelchair or disabled access, see ramp in photo. Friendly and helpful neighbours on both sides. A very pleasant place for a relaxed holiday with lots of side trips to Kiama, the Southern Highlands, Kangaroo Valley, Canberra (3 hours) ....
