Our home

Our renovated timber house stands on stilts and overlooks half and acre of tropcial gardens and a very private pool. With predominately silky- oak furniture and floor boards the house has a warm ambience, natural light and catches the breeze. Modern features include air conditioning, flat screen TV, computer-room with 2nd TV and fold out bed and open-style new kitchen. The house has a large outdoor verendah, with views of the mountains and cane fields and includes a dining table, sofa, occasioanl table and barbeque. The yard has many established trees and we enjoy watching the families of birds who nest and live in the canopy (currently we have a pair of owls breeding). We have a mountain bikes and a canoe which would be available.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Freshwater, named after the freshwater creek that flows through the suburb, is a historic, leafy part of Cairns city (population 120,000). The house is in a semi-rural area and the sugar-cane fields close-by can be accessed for bikes rides and walks to the creek, or the nearby Barron River. A hairdresser, Post Office DVD/Video store and general store are assessed via our back gate. Great restaurants, a deli/cafe and beauty salon are nearby. Cairns city is just 12km away and is the access point for the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree World Heritge rainforest. Beautiful local beaches line the 45 minute drive north from Freshwater to the beach town of Port Douglas. Winter in the tropics have day temperatures of 26oC and night temperatures of 16oC.
