Our home

Our apartment is adjacent to our house and located in picturesque Aldgate Village,
It has a floor area of 80 square metres over two levels. The largest area is upstairs with airconditioning, open plan dining, lounge and kitchen. It opens to an outdoor deck area of 15 square meters. North facing floor to ceiling windows bring in all the lovely winter sun and full width exterior see through awnings offering protection from the hot summer sun along with the air con.
The main bedroom and bathroom/laundry are downstairs. There is a sheltered patio with cafe setting adjacent to the sleeping area.. The downstairs bedroom may be configured as a Kingsize bed or two singles. Both beds have electric blankets fitted. We have recently had underfloor heating connected in the downstairs area.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are Di and David, married for 53 years, with 3 adult children and six grand children. We have both retired following long careers in The Public Education sector.
We both enjoy travelling and now that we are retired we are able to be very flexible but we do prefer to travel in the spring autumn in both hemispheres as we find the weather much more reliable then. As our apartment is free standing it is available at any time and is very suitable for home exchange, particularly of couples in a similar situation. Our apartment is not suitable for children.
As we live adjacent to the apartment, we are able to consider variations ie non simultaneous as to how home exchange will work and are keen to use our facility to exchange in various global and more local locations.
We have travelled quite extensively and have had holidays in Europe, Asia, the USA and Canada. At this stage in our lives, our preferences would be exchanges that allow us to re-visit places we have enjoyed over the years, both in Australia and abroad.

  2. David is a retired teacher and i was an admin officer in a school for forty years.

  3. We enjoy socialising, enjoying good food and wine, keeping fit with regular gym sessions and walking extensively around the hills. We are memers of the MG car club, we have 2 MGs and enjoy driving them. David is great with DIY projects around our property. We both love music, seeing many shows over the years. I enjoy knitting and reading.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live in the beautiful Adelaide Hills with its many attractions. We are are a short 10 minute walk to public transport that connects to Adelaide via the South Eastern Freeway. Buses connect to Adelaide city centre (20 to 30 minutes) and to the nearby Hills tourist areas. Southern Vales and the Barossa wine regions are less than one hour's drive away. We also live right in the centre of the Adelaide Hills Wine Region with many cellar doors a very short distance away. Victor Harbour (whale watching) is less than 90 minutes by car. Many lovely walks on the doorstep. There are several golf courses nearby: Mt Lofty, Blackwood, Belair, Mt Barker and Echunga. We are also well served by doctors, dentists, allied health professionals and Stirling hospital. Our local 24 hour gym is a 5 minute walk away and short term memberships are popular for visitors. There is a small supermarket, pizza bar, hotel, couple of high quality gift shops, hairdresser, Fred, the eatery (excellent for breakfast, lunch and depending time of year, a couple of evening dining options) and The Aldgate Pump Hotel.
Nearby towns include Stirling, Hahndorf and Mt Barker, all of which have great shopping, pubs and cafés.
Notable are the many restaurants, bistros and boutique wineries. Cleland wildlife sanctuary is accessible by a 15 minute drive or via public transport.
