What is a home exchange contract?

A home exchange contract is a formal agreement between both parties involved in a home exchange. It is intended to clearly set down the terms of the exchange and all agreed logistics, such as date and time of arrival, exchanging keys and so on. A car exchange contract can also be included if applicable.

Accommodation insurance.

As an optional part of the exchange contract, you can purchase 'Accommodation Insurance', which protects your travel plans in case your exchange partner is forced to cancel the deal due to illness, death in the family or other viable reasons covered by the insurance.

	General and standard conditions
-	We agree to take utmost care of the other parties belongings.

-	We agree that in case of an accident of any kind, we will replace or repair the items involved.

-	Regular payments like rates, electricity, phone line rental, etc are assumed to be paid by the owner of the house.

-	We agree not to remove any item from the home without the express written permission of the owner.

-	We agree that we will not allow any other party to occupy the home if we are not in residence during the agreed exchange dates.

-	We agree that we will request the other party if we desire to increase our numbers of occupants from our original numbers; and agree we will not accommodate additional people without permission from the other party.

-	We agree and understand that this exchange of home is a non-commercial arrangement. It is not a loan of property, nor it is concerned with the giving or receiving of any type of benefit.

-	We will leave the home clean. We will ensure a high standard of cleanliness, and make sure that the floors are vacuumed and mopped, refrigerator emptied of outdated food, stove and oven are grease free, bath and shower are free of mould and grime, and surfaces are dust free.

-	We agree that we will only cancel the exchange arrangements for legitimate reasons like serious illness, death in the family, disasters or any other acceptable reason as detailed in the "cancellation reasons".

-	If the other party is insured for accommodation insurance, and cancellation becomes unavoidable, we agree that we will supply proof of any legitimate cancellation to the HomeForExchange.com organisation upon request of the other party.

-	Home insurance should be covered by our own insurance, but if there would be any damage our exchange partner agrees to pay the initial Euro 500 as this is our own risk.

	Maintenance of the garden
	The lawn will be mowed every week by the son of the neighbour. In most cases he is doing this on Saturday mornings quite early. So he - Mark - may wake you up a bit earlier ;).

	Airco instructions
	The airconditioner will start automatically when the temperature is over 25 Celcius in the house, but if you want to adjust this adjust the termostat on the inside device of the AC.

	Watering the plants
	The plants in the house should be watered daily and the plants in the garden should be watered if it has not rained for more than a week.

	TV instructions
	The TV is a bit funny, the remote control only works if you slam it a few times in the palm of your hand. I think there's a wire lose in the remote control but never investigated this thoroughly.

	Spare keys
	Just in case: contact our neighbour Francois Giscard who lives on the second floor and who is usually at home.
