Located on Fidalgo Island, our newly remodeled Anacortes home has an outstanding view of Rosario Strait and Burrows Island. An open floor plan maximizes the view of the sea from most rooms. The interior has been completely upgraded with new carpet, tile, appliances, woodwork and paint. The yard is fully landscaped with mature plants and is low maintenance. Deer and rabbits stop by daily to pick up a snack or just lay down and take it all in. Everybody is on island time and the sunsets are spectacular.
We also have a 36' sailboat equipped with a kayak and dingy. It may be possible to take you sailing with us or get you set up to go crabbing or kayaking if you have the inclination. The bay outside of Anacortes is loaded with big Dungeness crab and we often get tired of eating them!
We have a 2008 Honda Civic that could be part of the exchange. We also have four adult bicycles. This is a very popular area for biking and hiking. Anacortes is located on Fidalgo Island and has easy bridge access from the freeway. Our neighborhood has its own private beaches, club houses, tennis courts, and parks. Nearby is beautiful Washington Park where every morning cars are prohibited so walkers and bikers can enjoy the views of the sea, islands, and huge cedar trees. Deer are always wandering through the neighborhoods and a variety of birds (Bald Eagles, Cormorants, Hawks, Quail, and noisy Blue Herons) fly by our windows. A short five minute drive into the center of town takes you to numerous shops, restaurants and waterfront walking trails. Every Saturday our public market is filled with local fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and breads. Free concerts are available at the marina every Friday night, and big community events seem to be happening every weekend (art, jazz, classic cars, bikers, steam engines, etc) Good crabbing, fishing and Orca watching nearby. The city of Anacortes has numerous art, music, and cultural activities throughout the year. Other nearby salt water parks offer additional hiking and sight-seeing. Jump on a ferry (just down the street!)and explore the nearby San Juan Islands, Victoria, Sidney, or Buchart Gardens. Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle are each about an hour and a half away by car.
The San Juan Islands was rated one of the top vacation destinations by National Geographic and New York Times for 2011! http://travel.nationalgeographic.com For more information about outdoor activities or cultural events visit this website: http://www.experiencewa.com and for the San Juans: http://www.visitsanjuans.comAnacortes is located on Fidalgo Island and has easy bridge access from the freeway. We are retired educators who enjoy sailing, traveling, tennis, hiking and cross-country skiing. Dave likes to pursue his talents in sculpting (bronze) and interest in genealogy. Terri has recently retired and loves to sail and travel. We have two grown sons in the Seattle area. Summertime usually finds us on our sailboat exploring some of the best cruising areas in the world. Dave is an experienced sailor having raced and delivered sailboats across the Pacific. Terri keeps him safe and is chief navigator and morale officer on board.
Our next travel plans include France, Switzerland, and Italy in summer 2014. We still are looking for two more exchanges in France and Italy. In the past we have done exchanges in Spain, New Zealand, Australia, and most recently in Costa Rica. We have found meeting our fellow exchangers to be one of the most rewarding benefits of this wonderful adventure!
We carefully maintain our house, boat, and cars and would do the same with yours. We are retired educators who enjoy sailing, traveling, tennis, hiking and cross-country skiing.
