Charlottesville is the historic town where Thomas Jefferson lived at Monticello and designed the beautiful University of Virginia. We live in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and are 2 1/2 hours from Washington DC and the Atlantic Ocean beaches, 1 hour from Richmond, 2 hours from Williamsburg. Charlottesville is an international city with a high degree of culture - galeries, museums, restaurants, concerts, theatre, lectures, cafes on a downtown pedestrian mall etc. Yet it is easy to join a hiking or boating club even for a short time. I am a single woman in my sixties and have a lovable Portuguese Water Dog (yes, the breed Obama has) - she is hyperallergenic (I am allergic to dogs and Leala is OK for me). I could travel with or without her though I would love to bring her along. If you don't want her in your home, I would ask that you take care of her here. I am bilingual in French, having lived in Paris and visited extensively throughout France and Europe.
