Description of our house

Our beautiful home was built in 1860 and lies on almost 5 acres of land with large old trees, numerous gardens and a lovely fountain in front. There are two stone porches, one facing the fountain, the other with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Out back we have a spacious deck overlooking the forest. Don't be surprised if you see deer, fox, wild turkeys or owls! Our main level has hardwood floors and 3 stone fireplaces original to the home. Our large family room is very inviting with a sitting area and large screen TV at one end and an antique farm table near the fireplace at the other. Adjacent to this is the very spacious formal dining room/living room with a fireplace at one end. From here you can enter the office area lined with windows. Our kitchen is very unique with original pine flooring, a wooden ceiling with beams and handmade cabinets from the 1940's. Our favorite room is the library, which has the original pine flooring and paneling. It is a very cozy room in the winter with the fire going! Upstairs we have 5 bedrooms, 3 of which have fireplaces. We currently renovated a small bedroom and an attic space into a large master suite and updated bathroom. On the second level we also have another full bath and a small bedroom currently used as a girls' playroom.

Our home is located in a peaceful, rural area in the lovely, small town of Purcellville in Loudoun County, Virginia. Its a beautiful area of rolling hills, horse farms, and views of the Blue Ridge Mountains just five minutes a way. Washington-Dulles Airport is 40 min. away. The location is ideal as it is within an hour from the numerous sights of Washington DC or Baltimore. If you are a history buff you will enjoy touring several nearby Civil War battlefields including Manassas (35 min.), Gettysburg (1 hour and 10 minutes), and Antietam (45 minutes) or other historical sites including Harper's Ferry or the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum (both about 30 min.). Another fun venture in our area is visiting/touring the 27 wineries http://www.visitloudoun.org all located within 5-30 minutes from our home. On the Loudoun Wine Trail you will find beautiful, unique wineries, many with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Other outdoor activities in our area include hiking on the Appalachian Trail (10 min. away), canoeing/rafting/boating on the Shenandoah or Potomac Rivers, golfing at the many courses, playing tennis, or horseback riding. The WO&D Bike Path, which meanders 45 miles to Washington DC, can be accessed with a short drive into town. If you love to shop, the Leesburg Premium Outlets are a 20 minute drive. Other nearby shopping at antique and specialty shops can be found in the the quaint, upscale towns of Middleburg or Leesburg. We have numerous fine dining and casual restaurants nearby. We are an adventurous family of 4 who enjoys traveling and are really looking forward to our fourth home exchange! We are both professionals in education who have been married for 22 years. Todd is a middle school guidance counselor and Lisa is an elementary special education teacher. We have two well-behaved, respectful children; Holly is 11 years old and Brett is 13. Our two small dogs are members of our family as well, but do not have to travel with us. We would love to travel anywhere near national parks, outdoor activities, historical sites, or beaches. Be assured that we will take great care of any home we stay in, as we do our own. Check out our small town of Purcellville and Loudoun County at "http://www.visitloudoun.org (click on our homepage below) where you will see videos of what our area has to offer. You will love it! We are looking for a Florida exchange for Spring Break and a summer trip out west in the summer of 2012. ![]()
