Description of our house

A fun vacation home in a wooded setting. We love spending time there. The house is spacious and light, warm and inviting for a small group, but easily accommodates 10. The main floor (2nd floor USA, 1st floor European) has an open plan with center fireplace, 2 sitting areas, dining area, roomy kitchen with new appliances and a full bath. Large front and back decks off main floor extend the living area into the outdoors. The ground floor has a full bath, an open unfinished play area and 3 bedrooms: 1 queen and 2 rooms with 2 twin beds each. The top floor has 2 bedrooms, each with a standard bed. One bedroom has a 9-foot window seat looking into woods; the other is a loft room with skylights. The loft room is private with its own door. Circular stairs connect the three floors. There is also a small shed in the woods behind the house, which could be used as a writing studio or an extra bedroom for one person.

Walk to a small lake tucked in a forested, mountain valley. Swimming and use of our canoe and kayak. Great local walks and biking on country roads. Or drive 3 miles into town ---- Wilmington, a small village with typical New England houses and many shops and restaurants. The Mount Snow ski area with skiing in winter and mountain biking in summer is a 15-minute drive. Also nearby are 2 golf courses plus a par-3 course that welcomes young children, an ecotourism farm that will delight children and their parents, horseback riding and many national forests with easy and challenging hikes. We are a 25-minute drive from charming Brattleboro and a 30-minute drive to MassMOCA, the contemporary art museum located in Mount Adams. Also nearby are summer theater and concerts. The area is beautiful all year, but especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves change color. The peak color changes occur late September and early October. We are a 2.5-hour drive from Boston and a 4-hour drive from NYC. The closest airports, Hartford/Springfield and Albany, are 1 to 1 1/2 hour drives. ![]() Something about ourselves

We are a married couple in our 60's. David is a chemistry professor and Phyllis is a nurse practitioner (with the good fortune to have 2 months of unpaid leave a year!). We enjoy hiking, golf and exploring new areas. We are French speaking and have done long stays in Paris and the south of France. Also interested in Scotland and Ireland, but will consider other areas. Our vacation home is available year round for short or longer stays. We are interested in a 2-to-8 week European visit Between April 1 and July 31 this year as well as in future years. We prefer 1-bedrooms to studios and are also interested in larger apartments/houses. If there are extra bedrooms we would like to be able to invite members of our family to join us for short visits. We are also interested in a 4-5 bedroom exchange in the Caribbean, Mexico or Gulf Coast of USA for a 1-2 week stay sometime between December and late March ![]()
