We moved to this apartment recently -- more pictures coming.
We live on the 12th floor of a clean, quiet, well-kept building. Our apartment has a large bedroom with room for a couple, and a large and comfortable sofa for a third person. We also have a queen size air mattress for two more people. The living room and bedroom face South and are sunny all day. The kitchen is medium sized, but large by NYC standards. There is a table with two chairs for coffee or a snack. There is a dining area with room for 10 people to eat. Maybe the nicest thing about our place is the terrace, which overlooks the East River, and the skyline of downtown Manhattan and North Brooklyn, across the river. We have a little table out there and in fine weather we can't seem to force ourselves to eat dinner indoors. The building has large, secure grounds, with a playground (swings, etc. for children), picnic tables, benches, and lawn chairs. There are laundry facilities in the basement of the building and a 24 hour security guard. We moved to this apartment recently -- more pictures coming.

Our apartment is in the Lower East Side, East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Pretty much the best restaurants in Manhattan are here - some fancy, some not. There are many incredible boutiques, gardens, farmer's markets, libraries, and galleries in our neighborhood. There is active night life, with great clubs in which to hear music. Punk rock in the US started in this neighborhood, the home of a famous (but now closed) club, CBGBs. It is easily the edgiest, most creative, most musical neighborhood in Manhattan, with a rich political, social, and artistic history.
We are walking distance to Soho, Chinatown, and New York's Little Italy.
If you care to explore, the sights of Midtown Manhattan (Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall) are all a 15 minute subway ride away. The museums and high end shopping of Fifth Avenue are also easily accessible by subway. Brooklyn is literally one subway stop away, and we highly recommend you explore our other favorite borough. You won't be sorry. Our apartment is in the Lower East Side, East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Pretty much the best restaurants in Manhattan are here - some fancy, some not. We are Johanna and Aaron. We are both 42 years old, and have a fifteen year old daughter. I (Johanna) am a librarian and my husband Aaron works for a Swiss investment bank, in technology. We're finally settled enough to spend some time traveling, especially as my husband's job sometimes takes him to Europe and Asia. I have a hard time with hotel rooms because I feel lost without a kitchen. I love to explore city markets and cook, even when I'm on vacation. You don't really get to experience a city until you live there, so we hope a home exchange will provide at least a taste of that. We want you to feel welcome in our home, and in New York City. We will do everything we can to make that possible. We are Johanna and Aaron. We are both 42 years old, and have a fifteen year old daughter.
