Description of our house

A 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house with a large screened-in porch on 3.5 beautifully landscaped acres 1 hr from New York City by car or by train. Enjoy the cultural riches and excitement of New York while also relaxing in the country. Two of the bedrooms have a queen sized bed. The third (very large) bedroom has a queen and a single bed. The fourth bedroom is quite small and has a single bed. The living room has a HD flat screen television, stereo system, DVD player etc. Two of the bedrooms also have TV’s. There are two laptop computers with high speed wireless internet access. One of the laptops is connected to the stereo system and is used in part as Net Radio so you would be able to listen to your own favorite national radio stations. It is also connected to the HD TV which makes it possible to download movies for viewing on the large screen. We are interested in an exchange during August through October in 2007 and for exchanges at any time and any length during 2008 and later years. We can arrange to have you picked up at Kennedy or LaGuardia. Our car (Toyota Camry) is available for car exchange. The house is not well suited for young children.

The house is located in South Salem, NY which is on the border with Connecticut. The two nearest towns, Ridgefield and New Canaan (10-12 minutes away), are both in Connecticut and are very attractive small towns. The area in between is fairly rural with pool, tennis courts and golf nearby. It's just a beautiful area. We are 20 minutes away from the nearest Atlantic Ocean beach. There are horse farms for good riding and trails for walking throughout the area. Being close to New York City is a real asset. Well known tourist attractions include The Metropolitan Museum, The Frick Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim, The Whitney Museum, The Cloisters, the American Museum of Natural History,the Bronx Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo. Our location might work best, as compared to Manhattan, for those who would like to intersperse visits to the City (for sightseeing, shopping, museums, musicals, plays, concerts, opera, ballet etc.) with days relaxing in the country. Tickets to all performances can be purchased online and picked up at the box office at the time of the performance. To avoid the sometime heavy traffic and the parking in the City, we usually drive to the nearby railroad station (New Canaan) and take the train. Once in the City public transportation is very efficient. Train schedule is available online (Metro North, New Haven line). We are a retired professional couple in the sixties. We have traveled extensively. In addition we have lived abroad for one year in Norway, for 4 years in Switzerland and for 3 months in England. We are very careful and responsible and would take very good care of your house, cottage or apartment in case of an exchange.
