Description of our house
As you can see from the photographs, our home on Cape Cod has everything we want for the casual, relaxed lifestyle we enjoy when away from our work and responsibilities in Connecticut. When we aren’t at the beach or out and about, we love to lounge on the living room couch watching movies, gather around the kitchen table for board games, read the morning paper over coffee near the bay window in the den, and observe the stars and fireflies come out as we sit talking on the deck in the evening. Between our four comfortable common areas and three bedrooms, everyone has the option to have their own personal space if they need time alone, but we always have plenty of room to be together. We have two bathrooms, and a large enclosed outside shower from which we can look at the open sky as we’re freshening up after a day at the beach. As this is our second home, a non-simultaneous exchange, hospitality and varied lengths of stay are possible.

Our neighborhoodMidway between the Canal and Provincetown, our quiet neighborhood in the Town of Dennis provides you with easy access to all Cape destinations. Bay and Sound beaches are only 7-9 minute drives from our door- pack our beach gear and have fun! The Sound’s wind and surf are great for kite flying, body and windsurfing, and parasailing. The Bay’s expansive stretches of sand, tide pools, and tranquil waters are ideal for children, sandcastles, kayaking, and dramatic sunsets over the water. If you prefer fresh water, sandy Scargo Lake is a 5-minute drive. Explore miles of scenery by kayak, canoe or paddleboat on the Swan and Bass Rivers. Steps from home, cruise along the bike path, or a 5-minute walk brings you to tennis and basketball courts, running track, and playground. Golfers have many courses to choose from, 2 within a 5-minute drive. Nearby nature trails traverse woods. waterways, and cranberry bogs, and tours of lighthouses, museums and historic homes transport you to earlier times. Cape Cod National Seashore and Nickerson State Park offer ranger-led programs, or take in a seal cruise or whale watch. Antique, jewelry, gift, pottery, glass, and art galleries abound. BBQ and dine on our tree-shaded deck, or sample the fare of fine local restaurants. Evenings bring sunset beach walks, plays, concerts, campfires, or Cape League Baseball. Boston, New England’s largest, most lively and historic city, is only a 90-minute day trip, with Plymouth and the Mayflower en route.

Something about ourselvesDean is a retired Math teacher, and Cyndi teaches music. Our adult children Jeff(22) and Jackie(19) are pursuing degrees in Music Education and French horn Performance. The four of us hope to travel in July. We would want to arrange an exchange far in advance so we could become acquainted through email to facilitate your stay, and book a more reasonably priced flight. If anyone in your family is celiac or gluten intolerant, we can accommodate their needs and offer suggestions for safe area dining. When we travel, we like to experience the culture and history of the region, spending time at historic sites and museums. We love outdoor activities, especially hiking, and have been to many National Parks in the USA. Cyndi’s grandparents were from Ireland, and we hope to see the historic and natural sights in the West/Southwest, as well as experience the Dublin area. We also look forward to spending evenings hearing some traditional music in the pubs. Dean’s family has French roots, and Cyndi’s Dad was stationed in Normandy during WWII. We’d like to spend time exploring Paris and Normandy, as well as other areas of France. We would hope to stay about one week in each area. Since the Cape is our second home, we could do a non-simultaneous exchange, and could also discuss hospitality and varied lengths of stay. You would need a car to make the most of your time on Cape. If your car has an automatic transmission, we’d also be interested in discussing a car exchange.
