Hingham is a picturesque ocean town of 20,000 people 17 miles from Boston's city center. We have a nice town center with shops, galleries and restaurants plus a newer shopping center closer to the house with upscale shops and restaurants. Hingham has its own public golf course and there are many others within a 15-30minute drive. A 2 mile public beach is 15 minutes away. The harbor hosts a sailing and rowing club, a swim beach and moorings for boats. Kayaks can be rented nearby. The town is known for its many parks and forests, where there are many lovely walks and bike trails, often near the ocean. In summer there are outdoor concerts and a nearby summer theater. A local symphony of fine quality plays the rest of the year and we have a library which is outstanding for both its collections and its special programs. Boston, with all its cultural and historical offerings, is a short drive and is easily accessible by boat or train directly from Hingham. The transit line is also close by. Easy drives are to Cape Cod (1/2 hr), Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket ferries (45min), Rhode Island-Newport mansions (1hr), New Hampshire (1hr), Maine coast (1 1/2hrs), and Vermont (2 1/2hrs). Plymouth, Concord, Lexington, and Quincy all are easy day trips to a myriad of historical/literary places. ![]() Something about ourselves

I, Nancy, am a retired educator/guidance counselor with a severe case of the travel bug. Usually I travel with a female friend. Interested in exchanges anywhere other than Asia, I'm currently searching for an exhange in Austria,Portugal, Spain, France, or England(Cornwall).or Lakes District) for 2014, Caribbean for winter or spring 2014, USA destinations in 2012 or 2013 other than summer, and Barcelona for winter 2013. Additional information available on request. Two of my three daughters and their families live in Hingham and could assist with any questions or offer day trip ideas. One is fluent in Spanish and French. ![]()
