Our home is a classic Hawaiian cottage with traditional louvered jalousie windows. The tropical breezes flow right through our home usually keeping us very comfortable. However, we do have air conditioning throughout the house for those few days when it's needed.
The kitchen was recently remodeled including new tile flooring. The rest of the house is the original hardwood floors with lots of Hawaiian themed area rugs. The main bedroom has a king-size bed. Second bedroom has a double size bed.
The covered lanai (deck) is a bonus living space and particularly comfortable in the evenings. The table there seats six people for dining and entertaining. The mini-fridge nearby holds our favorite cold beverages. Inside the house you'll see the kitchen has a large refrigerator and modern cooking facilities.
The living room includes an entertainment center with HDTV, surround sound and DVR. There are hundreds of channels on the digital cable box including HBO and Showtime.

Located within easy walking distance (perhaps 5 or 10 minutes) of world-class Kailua beach (where President Obama and family spend their Christmas holidays). Even on weekends this beach remains amazingly UNcrowded, probably because there's two miles of beach. There are also two beach parks with restrooms and other amenities -- one small park that is within walking distance and another about 1.5 miles away that is large with two sets of restroom facilities, showers, snack shop and life guards. All sorts of water sports equipment is available for rental near the large park. Many local people bring their children to our beach to learn surfing because of the relatively small but very surfable waves and soft sand bottom.
Across the street from the large beach park is Buzz's Restaurant where you can enjoy some of the best fresh fish on the islands in open air or air conditioned seating. In Kailua "town" there are more than a dozen good restaurants featuring everything from "local" Hawaiian food to crepes.
The Kailua location is 25 minutes by freeway from the airport and Pearl Harbor. We are 30 minutes driving to the Port of Honolulu and Aloha Tower, and about 40 minutes to Waikiki district. The location is also convenient to the North Shore of Oahu including locations where Jurassic Park and Lost were filmed (there are tours). Further north are all those famous big wave surfing beaches including Sunset, Waimea Bay and Pipeline. We are man and wife 60-somethings still active and eager to return to Europe again. I am a retired teacher and my husband is an electrical engineer set to retire August 30.
In April we had a wonderful exchange with a couple from Florence. We have an non-simultaneous exchanges arranged for Munich then Paris this fall 2013. We are looking to extend our stay in Paris, or go to London, on about 12Oct2013 for up to two weeks. Right now our home is available anytime from about 1Sept2013 to 15Oct2013 for non-simultaneous exchange, and after 15Oct2013 for simultaneous exchange.
We have an exchange in Prague arranged for fall 2014. We are particularly interested starting that trip in late summer 2014 with exchanges for urban locations in northern Germany, Amsterdam, Sweden and/or Norway.
We are also interested in returning to Paris, urban London and Rhein-Mosel valley area of Germany (Trier or Koblenz). We are NOT particularly interested in being in central European cities in high summer season, especially August; spring of 2014, or early September 2014 would be ideal.
