Description of our house
This is a luxury property located on the north end of St. Simons Island. The home opens into a large great room that overlooks the Marshes of Glynn, for which the area is famous. An adjoining kitchen is part of the open great room & also overlooks the marsh. It has granite countertops & top line appliances. A dining room looks out onto a large screened porch & more marsh views. A media room with a surround sound cable 72" HD TV, DVD, VCR, CD & DVR players & a large master bedroom/bath suite with jacuzzi tub finishes the first floor.
An elevator to the second floor takes you to a second huge master bedroom/bath suite, as well as a third bedroom and office with high speed wireless internet, fax, copiers & printers.
The exterior includes a large covered front porch, a large private uncovered back sun deck & the large screened porch. The rear deck has a private six person hot tub. Finally, there is an oversized two car garage & two laundry rooms.
The home has many features including wide plank pine floors, nine foot ceilings, & plantation shutters throughout the house. There is a sound system through the entire first floor, an intercom system, whole house vacuum system, wood burning fireplace, security system, two geothermal AC/H units & seven ceiling fans.
The home is decorated in an Island/Caribbean style with quality furniture, pictures & furnishings throughout the house. Everyone loves the inviting & open feeling the house exudes. We know that you will too!

Our neighborhoodOur home is in a gated plantation community with 24 hour security and lush flowers, vegetation & wildlife. The giant live oak tress with the Spanish Moss hanging from them harkens back to Rhett Butler & Gone With the Wind. The plantation has a Golf Digest four-star-rated golf course with signature holes set deep within the marshes requiring the use of the wooden bridges to get to them. The clubhouse, tennis courts, pool & marina all within walking or biking (2 come with the house) distance (2-10 blocks).
The beautiful beaches (beach chairs, towels, bocci balls, & frisbees are here for your use) of St. Simons Island, exquisite restaurants & shops, Sea Island (site of the 2004 Group of Eight World Leaders meeting & the 6th wealhiest area in the United States), & Little St. Simons Island (a privately owned island/resort) with its ferry ride are only 15 minutes away. Savannah with its courtyards & city squares; Cumberland National Seashore with its horses & huge white sand dunes; & Jekyll Island with its wide isolated beaches & historic "cottages" are all withing an hour's drive. If that is not enough, the Florida border is ony 38 miles from our island.
There is always something to do: an art show (St. Simons is an artists' & writers' enclave), fair, festival, tournament, play or concert. Most of all we are blessed with a warm climate & warm people with the noted Southern hospitality who embrace others. No one leaves St Simons unhappy!

Something about ourselvesMy wife & I are retired from successful careers as educational administrators, writers & consultants. We have one son who lives in Washington, D.C. & is married to a wonderful French woman. Obviously we go to Washington & France a lot. However, we are well traveled otherwise & enjoy travel that allows us to settle into one location & then use that as a base to explore the surrounding areas. That is one of the reasons we exchange homes with people who have comparable homes in desirable locations similar to ours.
We are physically active people who love to snorkel, hike, bike, ski, golf & swim. We love the beach & mountains & obviously love nature. We also love art, fine dining & historical sites. Therefore, any locations that have these available would be part of what we would look for in an exchange.
Being retired we are flexible about when we can travel & therefore can accommodate people who are restricted to various dates or times of the year. We are interested in all locations but would be especially interested in cooler climates in the summers including North America as well as the Caribbean, Australia & New Zealand, England/Scotland/Ireland, Europe, South America & the South Pacific any time of the year.
Since a car is essential on St. Simons Island & since car rental is a heavy expense when traveling, we would like to exchange for similar autos wherever we go. We have both a late model convertible & large SUV
