Description of our house

My wife and I have a beautiful classic country home (cherry floors, orientals, etc), on a private six acres with panoramic views overlooking Long Island Sound. It is located in the first open area of unspoiled coastline north of NYC and has a direct, inexpensive rail connection to NYC for day trips or an overnight stay. The house itself is post and beam with white plastered walls and high ceilings. The open living room and two large bedroom/sitting rooms overlook the water. French doors open onto a grassy terrace and garden. There is an extraordinarily well equipped kitchen (Vulcan stove, copper pans etc, herb gardens), great hiking, and swimming and traditional local villages with beautiful town squares.

Guilford is a traditional, sophisticated New England coastal town with a large town green surrounded by art galleries, clothing shops and restaurants. The NY Times described the town center as "an architectural historians dream." There are numerous extensive walking and biking trails, many of them along the coastline. The nearest road to the house (the road going into town) is on several lists as one of the ten most scenic in all New England. New Haven with the Yale University, theater numerous chamber concerts, and lectures, and several fine restaurants is @ 12 miles away. New York city is about 75 miles away with direct, inexpensive train service to Guilford. Boston is approximately 2 hours away, also with rail service to Guilford. ![]() Something about ourselves

My wife, a Londoner, and myself moved to the area because of the nearby coastal beauty of the area. I have taught in college and worked as a sculptor for a number of years. My wife helped establish a large DC restaurant and catering business. We both enjoy the arts and music and are looking for large urban cities or unusual rural settings for our excursions away. ![]()
