Old Mystic is part of the Mystic Village (the wooded part); the historic Village of Mystic offers casual and fine dining, boutique shopping, drugstore, kayaking/boat and bike rentals, the famous Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium/Sea Institute for Exploration, historic walking tours, art galleries and nightlife (a casino with top entertainment is also nearby/10 minute drive). The Atlantic Ocean is 20 minutes by car; Boston is a 2 hr trip and New York City is 2.5 hrs away (both cities can be reached either by car or by catching the Amtrak train out of Mystic). The closest airport is Providence, Rhode Island (40 min. drive); then Hardford CT/Springfield (65 min drive); most international flights arrive in Boston, JFK/New York or Newark/New Jersey. Our Mystic Village is a seafaring, quaint New England town great for boaters/boat watching with restored Old Sea Captain's Homes. If you want a great get-away place for holiday .. come to Old Mystic, CT (please explore current event happenings at the Mystic Chamber of Commerce website (http://www.mysticchamber.org ... you'll enjoy a lovely New England USA holiday! We enjoy four seasons here ... consequently our temperatures are a bit more mild due to the proximitry to the Connecticut Coastline ... a bit warmer and less snow in the winter and cooler in the summers ... come see for yourself!

We're a young senior couple who has lived in Old Mystic for 25 years and recently retired (a school social worker and a marketing director). Our two sons are grown and just completed their medical residency (a cardiac surgeon and a GI Fellow). Now that we're retired we hope to visit Europe and beyond; staying/exchanging from 2-6 weeks ... we're very flexible! My husband has dual Irish citizenship (his father was born there) and has cousins there and also in other countries (from relatives leaving Ireland many years ago); consequently visits to Ireland are always welcome as well as to other countries where cousins have relocated ... plus we'd like to explore many USA cities too! We are relatively new to the home exchange program (exchanging 7 times so far - all great!) ... we'd love to continue to share, not only our home, but our culture and friendship with other families from far and wide. We consider ourselves responsible and would be that of your home and belongings, as we hope you would be for ours. My sister and her husband (who still work and take our dog while we travel) like to visit us when we exchange .. hopefully that would be acceptable to have 2 adults join us for a week or so at some time during our exchange.) We especially enjoy traveling in the Spring (April-May) and in the Fall (Sept-October) as we have lots of family/company in Mystic during the summer.
