We built our architect-designed, craftsman-style home as a young married couple in 1966. It is located on a hillside (stairs) with a beautiful view of the Santa Cruz Mountains. On the main floor the house consists of an updated kitchen, a dining room with sliding glass doors which open onto a large brick patio, and an open 2 story living room from which a large front deck extends. A spiral staircase goes to the 2nd floor and the master bedroom/bath suite with Queen bed, a 2nd bath, a bunk bedroom, and an office. A few steps up takes you to the more recent addition: a wing consisting of an artist studio, and a guest bedroom suite (Queen bed) with Japanese bath and its own private deck. The house is canopied with huge oak trees. Guests have commented that our house is really like living in a tree house. Deer have adopted our small property and enjoy eating our plants.

Los Gatos is located in the southern most part of the famed Silicon Valley to which many of our 28, 000 residents commute. It has an ideal dry climate - rarely too hot or too cold. Our trees further moderate the temperature so we have no need for AC but do have bedroom ceiling fans. It is always cool at night! A 15 minute walk takes you to our charming town center which has a great variety of upscale shops, galleries, a diversity of restaurants and cafes. A bike and jogging trail parallels the Los Gatos Creek for many miles through parks and lakes. 2 adult bikes are available. Sunday mornings we have a farmers market in the town center park and summer Sunday afternoons there is live music at the same location. Santa Cruz beaches (swimming and surfing) are 25 minutes away, San Francisco (1+ hr), Napa Valley (2 hrs), although we have many very good local wineries. The famous Carmel and Monterey Peninsula is about 1½ hrs by car. Our home is located near four colleges: Stanford University, University of California at Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and Santa Clara University.
