Description of our house

Our home is comfortable, eclectic and fun. We are writers with two children, and just moved in six months ago, so I still wake up grateful to live here! The house is more varied and has many more surprises than I have listed. It's hard to know where to begin. The place was built in 1916, but we just finished a major re-model that was designed to make the place feel creative and inspiring to us and our children. For example, it has little doors built into the living room wall that are designed to let our son do a puppet show. We also have two of what we call "magic doors", which are small doors hidden in walls that lead to our children's rooms, to make the place fun for hide and seek. There is also a large playyard and huge playset-fort for kids in the backyard. As for the adults, the house is comfortable, cool, and creative. We like antiques but the furniture isn't precious for the most part -- although it's all well-loved and (we'd like to think) well-chosen. This is the kind of house that probably doesn't have a pair of perfectly matched sheets, but the king size bed is Stearns & Foster, and the blankets are likely a combo of 70's vintage and Bella Notte. There are two kitchens, both very different and fantastic in their own ways. The downstairs kitchen has 300 year old floors, and upstairs has skylights and a gorgeous vintage stove. There are three full floors in the house. The first floor has two bedrooms, two baths, beautiful wood and crystal doorknobs. The second floor is where most of the living takes place, it has a fireplace, and an amazing master bedroom flooded with stunning white light (we haven't yet hung curtains even because it is up high, and there are no close neighbors in that direction.) There's also a dressing room, the kids rooms, the upstairs kitchen, and again two bathrooms. The third floor is still in the process of renovation, but has high ceilings and fantastic light, and is a great place to write, paint, or create. There is also a door that leads to what used to be an outdoor deck in 1916, it offers amazing views of the city. As for outside, there are many places to relax and read a paper (we subscribe to the new york times, it is delivered every morning), and there is also an outdoor grill and beautiful brick bbq and fireplace. The yard lot is 18,000 square feet, one of the largest imaginable in Hollywood. Not all of it has been planted because we just moved in, but most of it is lush and in shade.

We are in the Hollywood hills, very relaxing yet super close to everything. Unlike most houses in the hills, we have "walking staircases" at the end of the cul-de-sac, which are essentially shortcuts that make Hollywood very easy to get to on foot. You really can walk to things and we do so often. The fun neighborhood of Los Feliz is ten minutes by car ( I walk there frequently), and Silverlake is 15 mins. Both offer very diverse shopping, delicious food and varied entertainment. I would estimate that over 50 restaurants are only a 5-10 minute car ride away. We are also close to the Griffith Observatory, the Los Angeles zoo, the Hollywood Bowl, Paramount Studios, Burbank, and of course, Hollywood. The house has excellent views, all the way to the beach on one side (30 mins away) and to downtown on the other. Los Angeles is bursting with free music and fun things to do almost all the time. A website we recommend checking out is http://www.experiencela.com it will give you an idea of some of the many fun things going on. ![]() Something about ourselves
