My home is in the picturesque town of San Anselmo in Marin County - just 13 miles north of San Francisco, via the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a very quaint old house, built around 1914. I've remodeled and updated it over the years but have tried to keep as much of the "old charm" as possible. I'm English, so of course there's a large English-style garden. There's also a big old-fashioned front porch for napping, dining, or just watching the world go by. The brick-floored kitchen is big and sunny and looks out to a secluded garden. I think the house would be more comfortable for a couple, rather than a family.

My neighbourhood is friendly and safe. It's a 15 minute walk to the center of San Anselmo where there's an array of interesting shops (especially antique stores), great restaurants, and outdoor cafes. It's also a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction to the town of Fairfax -again full of restaurants and cafes, live music every night of the week, and also a cinema. If you don't want to drive, you can easily travel to San Francisco by bus or take the ferry. San Anselmo is ideally located to enjoy many other nearby great places in California - such as day trips to the wine country (Sonoma and Napa), Point Reyes National Seashore, and many wonderful coastal towns and beaches. There are hiking and mountain bike trails within 5 minutes of the house. It's a great location for people who want to explore and enjoy the city of San Francisco, but also want the feeling of a small town and easy access to the outdoors. Something about ourselves

My partner and I spend our time between my San Anselmo home and his home in Yosemite National Park. We're both enjoying early retirement and love to travel, paint and sketch, and enjoy anything connected with the outdoors. We are looking for an exchange in Hawaii or Southern California during the Winter months and an exchange in Italy during the Summer of 2013.
