Our home is just that, a home. It is a beautifully restored 1929 Craftsman bungalow with a Master Suite addition. We are right in the center of Santa Monica yet in a residential neighborhood so you get the advantages of a city with the peace and relaxation of the country! The home is decorated with "treasures" from my 25 years of travel and antique "picking" and furniture that is comfortable, overstuffed and NEVER stuffy. With Santa Monica's perfect year round weather, we have created an outdoor "living room" on our deck for relaxation/entertaining. We have served many a Christmas dinner out there!! The front of the house has a white picket fence with a 15 foot high Hedge for total privacy, and the back yard is also completely fenced in. We are walking/biking distance to all of Santa Monica/Venice shopping/dining and just 16 blocks to the Pacific Ocean.

The neighborhood is a real neighborhood full of families and friends. We are 3 blocks from Montana Avenue shopping and dining, 13 blocks to the Promenade and 16 blocks to the Ocean and Pier. There are numerous grocery stores within a few blocks walk and then there is the famous Wednesday and Saturday farmers market on the Promenade. There is also a Sunday farmers market on Main Street where EVERYONE goes! It is full of food kiosks, and there is always a live band and pony rides for the kids. We have 2 bikes for your use and if you need more there are many rental stores in the area. Biking is our preferred mode of transportation when we are out and about in Santa Monica/Venice. Abbott Kinney, in Venice is usually where we dine out (walking/biking distance) but there are also MANY fine dining choices within a few blocks of our home. With Malibu beaches a 20 minute drive away, Hollywood 20 minutes into town, Universal Studios 30 minutes, Disneyland 45 minutes, you will never be bored, even if you never choose to leave Santa Monica!

My name is Mary (50 years) and I live with my amazing 17 year old daughter Siena. I am a chef and a yoga teacher and run my own small business so I have quite a bit of flexibility with my schedule, as long as Siena is on break. Last year we traveled for an 8 week adventure which took us to Europe, India and Kenya where we volunteer with a small organization in Nairobi. I also work with the Maasai tribe, finding sponsors and raising money to send the children to secondary school, and with the Maasai women (prenatal health and education) and working to assist them with the sale of their beadwork/jewelry, enabling financial security.
When Siena was younger we lived in Italy every summer and we have traveled extensively throughout Europe. The last few years has taken me to Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Australia, Africa and now India. As much as I love and cherish my home it seems I am always planning an upcoming trip! We view the world and it's inhabitants as our teacher's and were always up for travel, adventure and growth.
I am an extremely respectful and conscience person and have raised Siena to be the same. You can be sure that your home and belongings will be treated with the utmost respect and care. We have just completed two amazing back to back home exchanges in France and had also exchanged in Portland Oregon this past Christmas.
