Description of our house

"Valemont Vista" is our former family home now used for holidays, rentals and exchanges. It's a furnished 3 bedroom, 2 bath family home on centrally located Point Loma with incredible views of Shelter Island, San Diego harbor and downtown lights. Within the last four years, new carpets and flooring were installed and the entire interior repainted. New energy efficient appliances (washer, dryer and dishwasher) were just installed in August of 2011 though we still encourage the use of outside clothes drying lines in the back yard. There is a fireplace and a fenced backyard with patio, barbecue, shade trees and a lemon and an orange tree. The additional patio on the balcony is a favorite place for visitors to enjoy a meal or refreshments while watching San Diego bay. The same views can be seen from the living room, dining room, kitchen and back bedroom. Though we have remodeled extensively, we have left the charming retro (late fifties) kitchen counters, electric stove and oven, breakfast nook, wooden kitchen and pantry cabinets and colorfully tiled bathrooms. New efficient thermostats and electric wall heaters are provided in each room. There are enough beds to sleep six plus a pull-out bed in the living room and a sleeping pad are also available. In summary, visitors find our home user friendly, comfortable and interesting with its continuously changing views. As we see below, it's also ideally located for exploring southern California and Mexico.

Our neighborhood is safe, quiet and ideal for strolling with sunny weather and cool breezes keeping it from getting too hot. You can walk down the hill to the village of Point Loma with its shops, restaurants, San Diego Yacht Club and Shelter Island (really a peninsula) where there is a long paved walkway for strolling and benches for observing the sights as well as boating and a fishing pier. We're centrally located. Within a 10 minute drive are Cabrillo National Monument, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Sea World, Old Town, the Gas Lamp District, the airport, shopping at Fashion Valley, the world famous San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. In about 30 minutes you can reach Legoland, Baja, Mexico and the Wild Animal Park near Escondido. A wonderful way to experience San Diego is to hike, drive or bike from the house 3.5 miles on top of Point Loma with breathtaking views of San Diego bay on one side and the Pacific on the other until you reach the Cabrillo National Monument with its lighthouse, tide pools, nature trails and visitor and whale watching centers. It's not to be missed whether you drive out in 10 minutes or spend the day exploring on foot or bike. Also over the hill a few blocks to the west is the beautiful Sunset Cliffs park where you can join others for the satisfying ritual of watching the sun sink into the Pacific. Nearby Ocean Beach is one of our favorites, a quirky, diverse community with a fine beach. Its colorful shops, a special area of beach for dogs (off leash ok), and a long pier allowing fishing and close-up views of surfers provide something for everyone. ![]() Something about ourselves

My wife Susan and I live with our teen-age daughter in Oregon and have so far used Valemont Vista for family holidays and as a vacation rental. The three of us have visited Europe previously and would like to do so again next summer if possible by swapping with someone ideally in Slovenia, Italy and France. We would be very open to a non-simultaneous swap at anytime since we are not living there. I am a former English teacher now working as a promoter for progressive authors (See my Homepage) and my wife is a psychologist. David ![]()
