Our three plus-bedroom home is comfortable and spacious. Like most San Francisco rowhouses, ours is on two levels above the ground-floor. Unlike most rowhouses, ours is detached on one side, giving us many south-facing windows. From a ground-floor entry, stairs lead up to French doors opening into a large living room with comfortable seating, a music system, and piano. There is a long window seat in the bay window nook. Almost the entire main level has hardwood floors with wool rugs. Down the corridor is a large dining room with a nook for television-watching or relaxing. The kitchen and both baths were remodeled about 20 years ago. The refrigerator, dishwasher, and gas range have been replaced since then. Much period detail remains in other rooms. The master bedroom has cherry furnishings, a family heirloom. A recently-remodeled bathroom is en suite. A small bedroom/office has a queen-size sleeper-sofa. All main-level rooms have 10-foot ceilings and, except for the small bedroom/office, have south-facing windows. There are two decks, one off the dining room, on the south side, and a small one off the kitchen, on the shaded west side. A spiral staircase rises to an open craft room leading to our newly-furnished guest room and to another small bedroom. Total bed count: two queen-size beds, one single bed, and a queen-size sleeper sofa. There is a small apartment on the ground level with a separate entrance, often rented to a friend or family member.

We are so convenient to just about everything! Located in a safe, friendly, diverse neighborhood between the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park. A 10-minute walk to the beach. One block from a bike path and very close to great running and hiking trails in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (10 minutes away by foot). Steps away from a bus stop for buses to downtown and Chinatown and from a small grocery store and a popular cafe/delicatessen. One block from an excellent neighborhood restaurant district with many international cuisines, a funky movie theater, and local shopping. Quick access to the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, Marin County open spaces, Mt. Tamalpais, Muir Woods redwoods, and beyond to the Wine Country. The California Academy of Sciences and DeYoung Art Museum are close by in Golden Gate Park.

We are in our 60s, retired from law and from religious education. We have three grown children, two living in San Francisco and one in Portland, Oregon. We raised our children in this home. I love outdoor activities, including road cycling, backpacking, mountain climbing and mountain biking. I can advise you on how take advantage of the many wonderful outdoor opportunities in and around our city. My wife volunteers with a foster child organization; she can tell you about the best neighborhood walks to the ocean and to Golden Gate overlooks. We have no pets. Besides travel, between us we enjoy choral singing, genealogy, knitting, and reading. We have traveled a number of times in Europe and Asia and recently went to South America. We once had an independent home exchange, taking our three young children to England, and we loved it! We have had four very successful European exchanges as well as successful exchanges in Mexico, Canada, Colorado, South Carolina and Arizona. We are adventurous travelers, so don't hesitate to offer us a new or unusual experience.
