Ours is a comfortable, two-story house with extensive gardens, outdoor areas to relax in, and fruit trees. Downstairs there is a living room, spacious kitchen, bathroom, and sun room. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a second bathroom. We often have our meals on the large side porch or on the redwood deck in the back yard. My favorite spot is the hammock under the grape arbor. We have one pet, an "outdoor" cat, with whom you would be sharing the house and yard. Parking is available in the driveway. We would be willing to consider a car exchange.

Our neighborhood
Our house is in Santa Cruz, known sometimes as "Surf City" for its place in California surfing lore. A city of just over 50,000, Santa Cruz is a major tourist destination in California. We are located 70 miles south of San Francisco on Monterey Bay. The climate is mild year-round. The location makes it easy to do day trips to either San Francisco or Monterey. There are numerous beaches, a long coastline, and world-class surf. Nightlife is vibrant in the downtown area, due in part to the influence of the University of California at Santa Cruz, and there are many fine restaurants in the area. Tourists also know Santa Cruz for its Boardwalk roller coaster and amusement park. Redwood forests surround the community and offer unlimited hiking opportunities. Our house is located in a residential neighborhood within a mile of the coast, close enough to hear sea lions barking at night, and also about a mile from the downtown area. There are stores and restaurants within walking distance, but a car is adviseable for getting around. Something about ourselves
Susan and I (Charles) moved into our home 16 years ago with our two children, Justin and Lesley. Justin is now married and lives in Miami. Lesley is just starting a career in Washington DC, so Susan and I are now enjoying a very different life with just the two of us at home. After working for more than 20 years as a labor and delivery nurse, Susan has just completed a doctorate program in nursing and is teaching at a nearby university. I am the manager of a local water district, responsible for providing safe drinking water and protecting water resources. Both Susan and I love travelling, and we've now had four very successful house exchanges (two outside the States - one in Italy and another in London). We're open to "long" exchanges of 2-5 weeks anywhere in the world, and shorter exchanges for several days within California or nearby states.  = marks the location of this home
