Description of our house
Our main home is a semi detached 3 storey house, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large 3rd floor room used for TV (DVD player only no satellite TV)/ computer or even as a bedroom(wireless internet so you can use your laptop downstairs anywhere) . Air con in this room and our main bedroom. Open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen lead to the veranda (surrounded by sliding glass doors). All bedrooms have balconies. Swing seat and other chairs at the rear of the house - in the shade from early afternoon. 5 mins to centre of town. Alternatively to get a real taste of Turkish life you could stay in our apartment on a farm, an experience tourists rarely get. We actually live in the apartment now and love it, we decided to move here when we had house exchanges in both of our homes (we also have a 2 bedroom holiday house/with pool that might be available but generally this is now only available for rent) but once we moved here we decided to stay! However this will only be available only when we are away or we can organise a simultaneous exchange.

Our neighborhoodDalyan is a quiet resort situated on a river between a large lake and the sea. There are no hotels/houses near the beach or sea. We love walking on the beach, going to one end or the other by road or boat and coming back a different way (1.5 hours walk approx). Dalyan is a conservation area due to the turtles (sea and river) and at different times of the year you will see plenty of Storks (they arrive Feb/Mar and usually migrate August), Kingfishers, Herons, Egrets, Eagles and Hawks. One year we saw Flamingos on the lake - road end of the beach.
Do a search on Dalyan or look at it from Google Earth, you won't be disappointed.
If you want sunbathing weather, then you need to visit from April to end of October, maybe even early November, there are no guarantees. It can be hot in February and March when sheltered from the wind but it can also rain heavily too (not the English rain we were used to either). Although the sun still shines throughout the winter, the weather is much cooler and so the house is cold too (we provide heating). We don't get snow in Dalyan but you can see snow on the surrounding mountains and there are ski resorts only a few hours away. We love it any time of year but now are heading Down Under during our winters so we have the best of both worlds!
Dalaman airport is now open all year round (30 min), you will probably fly internally from Istanbul or get the overnight bus.

Something about ourselvesTom and I (Joanne 48) have lived in Dalyan, Turkey, for 7 years now. We had a massage centre here for many years where we provided a variety of massages and therapies but now I am semi retired. Tom is a young 64 who sold his business and retired early. We met in the UK when he was learning massage, marrying on the beach here 5 years ago. We have travelled far and wide since retiring so we can help you discover Turkey giving advice/information about many places.
We have house exchanges lined up in Australia from Nov this year until April next year then we return again July 09 where we have just over 4 months of exchanges (not all confirmed but we will be in Queensland for the whole of that time). We are then heading to NZ in December until the end of March. We have not arranged an exchange for December yet. We are now working on winter 2010 (Nov onwards) and hope to go to Western Australia for a few months. We have lots of vacancies whilst we are away next year - might as well take advantage of being able to stay in our apartment on the farm - so if you can do a non-simultaneous exchange please contact us.
I can give you more details about the apartment once we are in contact plus lots of information about Turkey - you will wish you were staying for longer once you are here, there's so much to do and see.
