It's a recent house, was built in 2000 over 3 levels, two of which w. a balcony. It includes a studio which could be used as an extra bedroom, which provides cool air in the hot summer. It faces south, has lots of light in the living room and the view is superb. Has all the modern appliances, up to 3 computers (but we take one laptop when travelling), a ping pong table, darts, petanque boules and a pool room. The bed rooms are not extremely spacious, but quite comfortable with nordic sheets and duvet. We have 2 TV's, and the house offers all types of books, especially on... gardening. We also have a fairly decent collection of CD's and DVD's.

The most interesting thing about our house is probably its view over the Orbe gorge, and the medieval town itself with its 3 towers. We have a 1/4 acre of land which provides a nice garden w. badmington/volley-ball area, a stone lounge for cool summer evening coctails and grillades outside, which can be had on the balcony or the stone lounge.

The town itself is quaint, it was built at the top of a hill, overlooking a sharp bend of the Orbe river, it has a bit over 5000 inhabitants and goes back to the Romans. You can smell wafts of chocolate odeurs from the local Nestlé factory on the other side of town. It offers 3 supermarkets, one is 2 minutes away from the house. It's located only 2 minutes from the motorway, which puts us 30' from Lausanne, where I work, and at a reasonable distance from most of Switzerland's major cities, Zurich, Lucerne, Basel, and of course Geneva, 80 motorway kms.
Lyon is 3h away, so is Paris by TGV. Other than that Italy and Germany are not that far either to American standards. But most of all Orbe, is very close to the Jura range (15') and the Alps (1hour), 4 major lakes, some that you can bike around on very flat terrain. There are lots of hiking trails and beautiful mountain train rides to enjoy, especially the Lavaux vineyards which was recently made a UNESCO landmark of breathtaking beauty, overlooking Lake Geneva.

Our names are Patrice Lefrançois (62) and Anne-Murielle Bovay (48). We have two daughters, Isaline, aged 14 and Lauranne, 17 and are both English teachers, which means that there are quite a few books to discover around the house. What we enjoy about this area is that it offers great quality of living, with lots of cultural venues of all types, museums, cinemas (even in Orbe), theaters and festivals, the most interesting Roman mosaics north of the Alps, for example, but also magic looking Jura caves and romantic walks.

There are many children theme parks, and zoos, especially one offering tropical domes, with tropical butterflies, flora and fauna. But there are also a great quantity of very pastural areas where you can spend the whole summer evening overlooking the plain from a cosy Jura chalet restaurant, 1000 yards high, enjoying local food or fondue. We also have quite an array of family games one can play at home, like pool, ping pong and pétanque, that southern French bowling game.

What we enjoy the most is that we have a great climate and a very peaceful quality of life. We trust our home can provide an excellent vacation port of call if you are looking for a change of pace as well as discovering superb cultural venues.
