Our first home is in Vilanova, but we usually exchange our two second homes: a county house in France, in central Brittany, available all year round, and an apartment in Torredembarra, a lovely town on the Costa Dorada, (not a tourist resort) which is described here and from which you can see the pictures. It's at less than one hour from Barcelona's city centre. It's a comfortable and cosy apartment at only 200 metres from a golden long sand beach, ideal for families with children. It can host up to 6 people, being perfect for 4. The terrace has sea views and the apartment has all you can need to relax. It has radiators and ceiling-fans in all the rooms. There is a shared open-air swimming pool and parking. We can lend you books, films, toys, a toddler's bed or anything you may need for you to enjoy your stay. We might also exchange our car, but you won't really need it to explore the area and to visit Barcelona, Tarragona or the theme park of Port Aventura, as cheap and comfortable trains and buses link them very well. There are good train connections with Barcelona's airport and Reus airport, so you can look for low cost flights. All the area is very safe. We can host you all year long, except for July and August, when we rent it. As it's a second home, there is no need for a simultaneous exchange. We also rent it at preferential rates to home exchangers in case it's difficult to arrange an exchange, but prefer swapping it! Passeig de Gracia street, the gorgeous cosmopolite very heart of the city of Barcelona (Gaudi, Picasso, the Olympic area, las Ramblas, Modernism) is at only 50 minutes by train (and the station is at a 5 minute-walk from home), so it's the same time it will take you if living in a badly connected area inside Barcelona's city, and trains are cheap and comfortable.
Salou and Port Aventura's theme Park ( http://www.portaventura.es are at +/-20 min. by train or car; the Roman world heritage city of Tarragona at only 10 minutes by train, etc. So our apartment is a good base from which you can visit many interesting places.
Torredembarra itself is a small fisherman town, with a lovely old town in a very peaceful area. It owns one of the few protected wild beaches in Catalonia, as birds use it for their bird migrations each spring and autumn. The golf club of Bonmont is at around 20 minutes. It is an excellent area for fishing or sailing, as there is a marina. There are lovely tapas bar and good restaurants (at a low cost compared with most of the European cities we have been in) to taste the Mediterranean cuisine. The sunny warm weather helps you relax and invites enrolling in outdoor activities.
For the shoppers, Barcelona and Tarragona are two places you should not miss, with lots of shops of every kind from the top ones to the cheapest ones, popular street markets and big commercial centres easily accessible by underground/train. Fast train connexion to Madrid for one-day trips.
