Description of our house

From its privileged location, my house enjoys possibly one of the best views over the Atlantic, stretching to over 90 km of sea and sheer coastline, looking down across green fields and cliffs to the spectacular colours of the sea and rocks. My house was built in 2005 using the traditional local materials from the area: stone and wood. From the outside, it looks like any other old stone house which are scattered everywhere, but inside, it hides a modern open and stylish design. The garden extends at different levels, to catch slightly different angles of the surrounding views. Inside, the decoration has been deliberately kept simple but essential, to enhance the surrounding nature that embraces the house, only separated by huge windows in almost every wall. The ground floor has an open plan design where the furniture separates the different areas: sitting area, fire-place,TV with lots of DVDs, dining area and fully-fitted kitchen. There are a few restored old pieces of furniture and an enclosed toilet. Upstairs, there is a double-bed bedroom and en-suite complete bathroom; a bedroom with twin-beds and an adjacent bathroom with an enclosed shower area; an study with computer, Internet-wifi and a futon-sofa-bed. A shaded porch at the entrance is an ideal place to enjoy lunch, a barbecue, a drink or a siesta in the afternoon. My paintings are also part of the house. Some of them depict the rich Galician mythology or the brightness of stunning sunsets over the ever-changing sea.

Anyone who loves nature will be surprised by the unspoiled area, genuine rural people and wildlife. It is not unusual to find wild horses while walking to the lighthouse, deer or wild boars at dusk. One of the best features are the sounds - birds, roaring sea at the distance in stormy days, wind blowing through the leaves in the forest or silent sunny days. The scenery changes by the day, by the hour. My hamlet is less than ten minute-drive away from lovely Cedeira, a fishing town set around a protected double-u-shaped bay with distinct and unhurried way of life. The food consists of fresh fish and some of the best meat in Spain, superb shellfish and local grown vegetables, particularly potatoes, all cooked in the local style and served in big portions. For many, some of the best Spanish white wines are the Galician Albariņo and Ribeiro. Tapa-bars and restaurants, unsophisticated good quality food at very reasonable prices will well satisfy any sensitive connoisseur. This is Spain's north western corner, the legendary ancient Finisterre, the end of the known world, where people have been heading, guided by the stars, from Neolithic times in search of the dying sun. Weather is very mild all year round without extremes in winter or summer. The rain and the mist can be part of the landscape, as glorious sunny days when colours are brighter than ever. This house is a place for peace and inspiration, great for artists and nature lovers. Being an artist myself, this house represents the dream of a lifetime where I try to spend periods of time, either with my family or on my own. My neighbour and mathematician friend, has encouraged me to try this home exchange adventure. She has been doing it for some time and has been delighted with the experience. So, I'm going to give it a try. I'm a translator, a teacher... but my inner vocation is painting and writing. I've been married to my English husband for a number of years. This house could be available for non-simultaneous exchange. Int. airports: A Corunna, Santiago. Hiring a car, highly recommended.
