We live in a one bedroom apartment of about 90 square meters. It is on the ground floor of an older colonial building, and was tastefully renovated recently. The entrance area is a good size room used as a working area, opening onto the livingroom, which can be closed-off if used as a second bedroom. The livingroom has a sofa-bed. There is an area of the apartment that used to be an outside courtyard, but was closed as an extension of the corridor, increasing the space and making for a special feature, since it now includes a skylight and rain water goes along the wall. Hard to describe, but obvious (and rather pleasant) when it rains... The bedroom has a queen size bed, and the kitchen is well equipped with a gas stove, toaster oven etc., as well as a washing machine. We have a small courtyard, technically for the use of all 4 tenants of the block, but rarely used by others. It is a nice, quiet area for a morning coffee. We also have a small BBQ. We have high speed wifi internet, cable TV with many channels. Of course, aircon and ceiling fans in all rooms however we rarely turn on aircons.

Il est au rez-de-chaussée d'un immeuble des années 30, rénové récemment avec gout. La pièce par laquelle on entre nous sert d'espace de travail et de vie, avec une grande table, étagères/bibliothèque etc. Cette pièce est ouverte sur le salon, qui peut toutefois être fermé si on s'en sers comme chambre à coucher secondaire. Il contient un divan-lit confortable pour 2 personnes et la télé. La chambre à coucher a un grand lit. la cuisine contient un cuisinère au gaz, un petit four-grill, la machine à laver, et tout ce qu'il faut pour cuisiner. Nous avons une petite court fermée, techniquement à l'usage des occupants des 4 logements de l'immeuble, mais dans les faits, pratiquement jamais utilisée par les voisins. C'est un espace privé pouvant servir pour prendre un café ou l'apéro, ou pour faire un BBQ. We live in a one bedroom apartment of about 90 square meters. We have recently moved to Singapore and live in a colonial apartment of the Tiong Bahru conservation area. Built in the 1930's, Tiong Bahru is one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore. It is also famous for the quality and range of the local food fare, in particular Tiong Bahru market boasts some the best hawker stalls in Singapore, as well as fresh produce. There are good restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and Singapore being rather small, there is very fine dining and all sort of activities nearby. Central Business District for work, Boat Quay for fun, the raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling, Orchard Road for shopping and clubbing, all are within 10 minutes taxi ride. Chinatown is also at walking distance. The nearest public swimming pool is of olympic size and is 2 bus stops away. Public transport is very convenient, with an MRT station (Tiong Bahru) 600 meters away, and numerous buses stopping even closer. At this MRT station, one can also find a shopping mall with all services, including a cinema.

C'est un quartier tranquille et avec beaucoup de cachet, réputé pour son marché ou l'on trouve non seulement beaucoup de produits frais (viandes, poissons, fruits & légumes), mais aussi de nombreux et parmi les meilleurs Hawkers' Stalls, ces kioskes de restauration typiques, délicieux et abordables. Tiong Bahru a aussi plusieurs restaurants. Singapour est plutôt petite, et nous en sommes au centre. Tout est donc à proximité, et en 10 minutes de taxi on rejoint soit le Central Business District, Boat Quay et ses bars et restos, le Raffles Hotel pour un Singapore Sling, ou Orchard Road pour du shopping sans fin. Chinatown est à distance de march. Nous avons une piscine publique de 50 m à 2 arrêts de bus, et sommes en général très bien desservis par les transports en commun avec une station de MRT à 600 mètres et de nombreux bus qui nous amènent un peu partout. We are a young couple (on average...), French and Chinese, new to Singapore. I work for a foreign company related to the aviation business while my wife studies. We travel very frequently, either within the Asia Pacific region for my work (we then generally travel together), or to China or Canada to visit families. We have lived in both places before, but have spent most of the last 6 years on the road, traveling around the world for my work, and have recently settled down in Singapore. We have made a few home exchanges, using our apartment in Montreal (ID=34989) for simultaneous or non-simultaneous exchanges, and have had only great experiences.
