Description of our house
We live in a cosy, comfortable, clean home in a lovely leafy area of Edinburgh. We have a large family/living room with TV, DVD, Freeview recorder, computer, wireless broadband and Hi-Fi. The adjoining dining room has a table with six chairs. The cosy sitting room at the front of the house has a widescreen Cable-TV, DVD and Video. Our kitchen is galley style and is modern and well equipped with electric cooker and hob. Upstairs are three bedrooms, one has two single beds and one has a cot, this can be swapped for a single bed should it be required. The third bedroom has a double bed. The sitting room downstairs has a small double sofa bed so can be used as a fourth bedroom. Our bathroom has been recently refurbished to a high standard and has a large bath and separate shower with great water pressure. The house has gas central heating with a combi-boiler giving unlimited hot water. The garden is private and fenced so is very safe for children. We have lots of kids toys including a 10 foot trampoline, scooters, bikes, etc. We have a small raised deck and a paved area with lots of seating to enjoy the sun while admiring the overflowing flowerbeds! Two adult’s mountain bikes are available for the energetic. Two cars can be parked on our drive with plenty of free street parking as well. Our neighbourhood has a real sense of community with a mix of mainly young families and retired people. You will find our neighbours friendly and you are sure to be made to feel very welcome.

Our neighborhoodOur house is situated in a quiet area on a pretty tree lined street. We are a 5 minute walk from main bus routes at the end of our street offering very regular buses during the day and late into the evening. The excellent bus service means that all Edinburgh’s attractions are within easy reach for only £2.50 a day! Within 15 minutes walk can be found two large parks, the Water of Leith, a nature reserve, local shops, takeaways, pubs and even Murrayfield stadium, Ice Rink and Edinburgh Zoo! The city centre is 20 minutes on the bus, 40 minutes walk or a quick £7 taxi ride. Lots of information about Edinburgh attractions can be found via Google but some of our favourite things include: the great range of restaurants, friendly real ale pubs and selection of theatre and music. Just across the city is Portobello beach which is a traditional sandy seaside resort. Edinburgh is famous for its festivals. August is the Fringe, Book, Art, Jazz/Blues and International festivals. June is the Film Festival and Real Ale Festival. April has the Science Festival and December is the Christmas Festival with the legendary Hogmanay Street Party. It is easy to explore further afield such as Loch Lomond, St Andrews or Stirling where the famous battle of Bannockburn was fought. An hour by car is Glasgow with M&D's theme park, Glasgow Science Centre, etc. Snowsports enthusiasts can access Scottish ski resorts in just over 2 hours and Europe’s longest dry ski slope is just on the Edinburgh bypass.

Something about ourselvesWe are in our early 40s and have three children, two girls (5 yrs and 9 mths) and a boy (4 yrs). We are both professionals (Head of IT/ex-Teacher and Senior Project Manager) and we very much enjoy living in Edinburgh for the cultural and outdoors activities this capital city offers. We spend our free time as a family making the most of the local countryside, beaches, and visiting the many child-friendly tourist attractions. We love to travel and have visited many countries in Europe and beyond but we are new to home exchange. We are keen to try home exchange as we feel it will allow us to see parts of the UK, Europe (or even further afield) we may not have otherwise considered. We are restricted to school holidays due to our eldest daughter being at school but are interested in long weekend breaks in the UK. We can offer a clean and comfortable base for people who would like to enjoy a break in beautiful Scotland! We may be new to home exchange but we can promise to treat your home with respect and great care. For 2008 we will be restricted to destinations we can travel to relatively cheaply as we have already had our main holiday but for 2009 we are open to offers!
