We offer a 4 year old home on a flat section on a hill above the unique seaside village of Hahei which looks out over the glistening waters of Mercury Bay.
The house was built in 2009 and is a one level home with a big covered terrace along the front which is wonderful for outdoor living. There is an outdoor fireplace under cover at the end of the terrace where you can enjoy long leisurely evenings with the fantastic view out over the bay and islands spread before you. The barbecue is also in this area. The house is built of Hebel block and is cool in summer and warm in winter. It has 3 double bedrooms, all with door access to the garden or terrace. The main bedroom has a king bed and 2 bathrooms (his and hers bliss! - one with bath) and 2 guest bedrooms ( 1 with king bed, 1 with 2 single beds) share a bathroom. There is also a separate guest bathroom which is called the Opera Bathroom because the high celing makes the acoustics superb for singing! Our family room (kitchen/dining/seating) is large and the bifold doors along one wall can be opened so the room extends out onto the terrace. There is a indoor fireplace in the living area and the room also has tv (with mysky) and a sound system. The kitchen is very well equipped...previous exchangers have said it was the best they had experienced! Through the door behind the kitchen area is a large utility room with extra storage and fridge for the kitchen and freezer, washer, dryer and sinks and outside this is a yard for wood and rubbish storage. Domestic services are available (extra cost) There is Wi-Fi internet throughout the house. For artists there is a light filled studio in the barn which I could make available.
The house garden includes an expansive lawn in the front, a courtyard area near the entrance and a large vegetable garden full of wonderful salad greens and tomatoes and there should be strawberries and raspberries for most of our summer in January and February. Part of the garden is a native bush area and there is a circuit walk from the house through the bush and back to the house. There is easy parking onsite.
WiFi internet is available throughout the house.

Hahei (pronounced Har - hay) is on the North Island and is a small seaside village in Mercury Bay on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula.
There is so much to do in the area!
Hahei is the town with the nearest access to the famous Cathedral Cove. Many of the beaches and coves in the area were used in the film The Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian and can be seen on http://www.newzealand.com The Cove carpark is a 5 minute car ride from the house and then a 40 minute walk to the Cove or if you are energetic you could walk all the way - about 1 hour 15 minutes each way. This walk would take you along Hahei Beach, up around the headland to the entrance to the Cathedral Cove walkway.
Hahei has a village store for essentials, 2 cafes and a very good restaurant and plenty of activities such as kayaking, diving, and glass bottom boat trips to the marine reserve and Cove. Boat charters are available from Whitianga. 15 minutes away is Hotwater Beach where, at low tide, you can dig a pool in the sand and relax in the thermal water which flows from a crack in the volcanic rock or surf at the other end of the beach. Whitianga is the nearest large town, a 30 minute drive or, drive to Ferry Landing, park the car and catch the little ferry across the river - also half an hour but much more fun! There is a vineyard at Cooks Beach where Captain Cook landed in 1769 and wonderful walks in the Coromandel hills. Visit Coromandel Town on the west coast (1 hour 30 mins drive), an old timber milling town with fabulous craft galleries and cafes.
Hahei is 2 hrs 30 mins from Auckland city and the same from Tauranga or Hamilton. Rotorua is 3 hours drive. There are airports at all of these towns for connections to other parts of New Zealand. There is also a daily flight from Auckland to Whitianga.

Retired and in our 60s. 3 adult children who are working in statistics, industrial design and tv production in Auckland and overseas.
We enjoy travelling and are open to offers of exchanges in Europe, primarily London, France and Italy.
Other than our family and cheeky Jack Russell Minnie our loves are gardening, landscaping, art, sport, reading, movies, interior and industrial design, architecture. Minnie goes to a dog hotel when we are away from our home!
Non simultaneous exchange would be preferable as our seasons are opposite to the Northern Hemisphere. The best weather for your visit New Zealand is usually February, March or April which is our summer/early autumn. Winter months are June, July, August - good for skiing in the South Island.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Please note....in 2014 - Exchangers have already booked our house for the end of January and first 2 weeks of February but other times are open - except Christmas, as already mentioned - which is family holiday time in our home and it is not available.
