My 3 bdrm apartment is in a very desirable heritage suburb of Auckland, NZ. It is on the first floor of a block of 16 apartments with my own private gated/secure access to the street, as well as internal access in a lift. The apartment has been completely renovated less than a year ago. I have created a rooftop-style garden including some vertical planting but do not have a view. The location is just 1 minute from the waterfront of Auckland Harbour with ferries running every half hour to Downtown Auckland (takes 10 mins max). Other ferries also leave from the same terminal to Waiheke and Rangitoto Islands in the Hauraki Gulf. All necessary services and shops are very close, including the supermarket, post office, doctor, Churches and many cafes and restaurants. There are 4 beaches within walking distance, and several parks along the waterfront. It is a very beautiful area with a relaxed and friendly community.

My neighbours living within the apartment block are mostly retired couples and owners. A minority of apartments are rented. The building itself is 3 storied with a line of shops facing the waterfront on the ground floor and closed parking behind. The other two levels have 8 apartments on each floor. Only 3 have their own access to the street, and mine is one of them.
There is a boat builder, office block, and chocolate shop across the road and a community hall next door. In spite of this, I find the locality reasonably quiet, especially at night. It is lovely being so close to the waterfront and there is constant action on the harbour with regular cruise and cargo ships coming and going and plenty of sailing boats, for which Auckland is so famous, and aptly named "The City of Sails." It was home of the America's Cup at the turn of this century.

I am a retired College Teacher and widow of 5 years. My husband was a farmer on a beef and sheep farm in the Central North Island, about 3 hours drive South of Auckland. On his retirement we moved to Cambridge where we lived for some years, and I continued to teach in a private boys' boarding school in Hamilton.
We had 3 children - now adults with their own families, so I now have 8 grandchild between 11 and 3 years of age.
My main interests are Art and Classical Music, and I also belong to a Masters' Swimming Squad at the Navy Base nearby in Devonport. I have travelled extensively during my life, but am no longer comfortable in hot climates and prefer more temperate zones.
I have a son sailing in Emirates Team New Zealand in the next America's Cup which is to be held Aug/Sept 2013 in San Francisco. I would like to be there for some of that time.
