We live in a historic house from 1880 in the center of Bodegraven, which is located in the Green Heart of the Netherlands and located exactly between the four largest cities of the Netherlands; Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague.
Our house is completely restored in 2005, it has authentic details, but is suited with all modern conveniences.
The house has a spacious living (11.5 x 4.5 m) separated by sliding doors (kamer–en-suite), with on the one hand, the living room with fireplace and doors to the garden and on the other side a spacious dining room with large dining table. We have a separate kitchen, equipped with, plenty of working space, a large (90 cm) stove, double oven and microwave, dishwasher, large fridge and freezer, dining table and ample workspace. From the kitchen you enter into a utility room with washer and dryer. From the kitchen you can walk into our cozy garden. This garden has a terrace, a lawn with trampoline, a veranda with dining table and a shed with bicycles and a barbeque.
Downstairs is also a separate room which is furnished as an office and TV room.
Above we have a spacious hallway, four bedrooms, of which two quit large (25 and 20 m2) and a spacious bathroom with bath, separate shower and double sink. Our house is situated in a quiet street in the center of Bodegraven, with all facilities within walking distance (200 m), including a supermarket, bakery, butcher, restaurants etc. There is also a public swimming pool with indoor and outdoor pools close by (400 m). Bodegraven has a small Cheese museum and a nice fortres from the golden age ( http://www.fortwierickerschansgroep.nl ). Close by is a theme park dedicated to the Roman period ( http://www.archeon.nl ).
Bodegraven is a quiet village at the river "the old Rhine" and is located in the Green Heart of Holland. In a few minutes you are from our house in the countryside, where you can make beautiful cycling and hiking trips. You can also do nearby sailing, canoeing, and there are electric boats for hire to explore a natural park (eg Nieuwkoop) or swim in one of the lakes in the area (eg Reeuwijk). Gouda, famous for its cheese, is a 10 minute drive away and the big cities; Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague are within 30 minutes drive away, as well as Schiphol airport. But even easier it is to take the train to the big cities, because our train station is within a 10 minute walking distance of our home (600 m). Joris (42) is a medical engineer, working as the manager of a R&D department in the University Medical Center (UMC) in Utrecht. Ruth(40) is a midwive and paediatric nurse.
We have three children; Mette 11 years, Tijmen 9 years and Bregje 6 years old. We also have a cat, Siep, who likes to stay at home.
We love good food and cooking, baking cakes and invite people to parties.
We love to travel and go at least 4 times a year away, skiing, city-breaks or go to my mother in Portugal.
We have exchanged homes for the first time, summer 2012 with a family in Denmark and that was a fantastic experience, so we hope to exchange more often in the future.
