Description of our house
We have a very light and sunny family home situated right at the river Maas in Rotterdam. While sitting on the southfacing terrace, you can watch freightships and all kinds of other vessels passing by. The warm and cosy livingroom has a riverview through the large windows and there is an open kitchen with all necessary equipment. Downstairs is one separate toilet. On the first floor there is one bedroom with a double bed and great view of the river again; one bedroom that sleeps one and a bathroom with shower in tub and another WC. On the second floor is the third bedroom which sleeps three (on a single bed and double futon).

Our neighborhoodOur home stands on a little hill (hence the wonderfull view on the river),right next to a park and with a childrens playground right in front. It is a 2 min. walk from The Erasmus University; aprx. 15 min. walk from the "Kralingse Bos"(great recreational area with woods and a lake where you can sail and take sailing courses). Very easy access to all public transport(including a watertaxi which you can board a few steps from our house!). Our neighbours on 'the hill' are very friendly and helpfull. A number of them work at the University as teachers. There are several families with young children. The City Centre is 10 min's away by tram and has lots of museums, great architecture and many shops and restaurants. Taking a tour around the Rotterdam harbour (worlds largest!)on a boat is highly recommended! Famous old city of Delft is 15 min. by car; The Hague (and Scheveningen beach)aprox. half an hour; Amsterdam is less than 1 hour by car or train. Antwerp (Belgium)is one hour away. The High speed train takes you to Paris (France) in less than 4 hours.

Something about ourselvesWe are: Martinet (51, Mom, working as a operation nurse in a hospital; studiing psychology at Open University) Frederik (18, just graduated from school, goïng to Delft University), Emilie (15 still in school) and little black Dachshund Zipper (very prominent and happy family-member, who will be staying elsewhere while we are away) We value our nice home but also love to go out and take part in several sporting activities such as rowing, jogging, tennis and field hockey. We all have had quite some traveling experience all over the world (USA; Australia; South Africa, where Martinet lived and worked as a nurse for a year) This is our first experience in home exchange, but we love to welcome people to our house and ofcourse will be very responsible guests in yours!
