Our house was built in 1938 as an office annex house for the director of the local farmers bank ("De Boerenleenbank"). It is a big two story red brick house with an attic and a cellar under the kitchen. On the first floor there is a spacious living room with a dining area and an open fireplace, a kitchen and a library (the former bank office which still has a big safe). On the first floor there are five rooms and a bathroom with a shower. The attic has recently been refurbished and has big windows with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside; it is an ideal area where children can play if the weather is not sunny. We have a secluded garden, with hedges around it ensuring privacy, with a terrace and a lawn and small apple trees. The garden is next to the river and oriented to the south. Behind the house there is a terrace towards the southwest.
Behind our house, across the river "De Meije" is a nature reserve around "de Nieuwkoopse Plassen" http://www.natuurmonumenten.nl
Our house is in the middle of a winding 12 kilometer road between the small town of Bodegraven and the village "Woerdense Verlaat" with farms and houses, in a quiet rural area 4 km’s from the nearest village, Zegveld http://www.zegveld.net , click on "Foto’s" on the left side for pictures), which has a supermarket. Other towns close by are Woerden (9 km), Bodegraven (9km) and Alphen aan den Rijn (11 km). The area is ideal for walking, cycling and boating through the Dutch landscape. Due to its central location our house is also an ideal base for discovering Holland.
We have a holiday home in Belgium, in the Ardennes, near the French border. It is in Vencimont, 60 south of Namurs, 100 km south of Brussels. We can offer this house in combination with our house for non-simultaneous exchanges. You can find it on the HomeforExchange side under ID = 58660.

We live in The Netherlands in "the green heart of Holland" ("het groene hart"), a vast green natural/agricultural region in the middle of the circle of cities ("Randstad") formed by Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague. The centres of these cities are all between 35 and 45 km from our home, a 30 to 40 minute drive. We are close to Gouda, famous for its cheese and cheese market, and also not far from to historic (university) towns such as Delft and Leiden.
The beaches of the North Sea coast (Scheveningen, near The Hague, Wassenaar, Katwijk, Noordwijk, Zandvoort, Bloemendaal) are at 45 – 55 km to the west, a 45 – 55 minute drive. The famous "Keukenhof " garden and flower show ( http://www.keukenhof.nl is some 35 km drive to the west from our house. The forest area of The Netherlands (the "Hoge Veluwe" national park, http://www.hogeveluwe.nl is a 45-minute drive to the east.
Our region is very typically Dutch, green polder land, consisting of pastures with canals, where milk cows and sheep graze. Directly behind our house is a small river, called "De Meije". We have a Canadian canoe, which guests can use. From the river there is a connection through canals to a lake called "de Nieuwkoopse Plassen". The village of Nieuwkoop can be reached across the water or via a pedestrian/bicycle path across the lake. We have bicycles for our guests. We are a family of four. Our twin boy and girl were born in September 1999. I work in Amsterdam as an Executive Search Consultant, my wife is Director of the theater/cultural center in nearby Bodegraven. We do not smoke.
We have a dog, a three-year-old female Chesapeake Bay retriever, who is very friendly, well behaved and kind. We would like to take her with us when we go on holidays. If our exchange partners do not want us to bring a dog to their home, we can leave her with friends or family.
