We are a Dutch/Danish family of 5 who live in a light semi-detached house (from 2005) in the centre of Holland. The house has a nice living area (38m2) and an open and modern kitchen (20m2) and a hall with half bathroom. We like old and new design mixed.
On the second floor you will find a second half bathroom, separate full bathroom with whirlpool and separate shower. Furthermore, 2 of our children have their bedrooms here, and there is also an office with a couch that sleeps 2 if necessary. Our son has lots of Lego and Playmobil, and there are a variety of boardgames to play with. On the top floor the master bedroom (30 m2) is situated and a smaller study with an extra bed if needed.
The garden has a front and a back area. In the back we have room for two terraces and a trampo. In the summer you will find it enclosed with high trees and flowers, a nice place to relax or enjoy a BBQ after a day of sightseeing in Amersfoort or some of the other places nearby.
It should be noted that we have a dog, which of course will not be there (and we don't need to bring it either!!). However, people with strong allergies might find this a problem however clean the house will be left you. Arrangements to have our cleaninglady come after or during your stay can be made if needed. We live in a residential area of the otherwise historical city of Amersfoort (more than 750 years old with lots of cosy places to eat or shop and home to cultural heritage like the Mondrian House). Furthermore you will find yourself ideally close to bigger cities like Amsterdam (40 km) and Utrecht (25 km.) with direct train connections to both cities. Easy acccess to connection to Schiphol Airport. The residential city of The Hague (100) km or the city of Rotterdam (80km) are about 1 hour's drive outside of rush hours. Amersfoort itself is close to water (IJzelmeer) and forests. The beaches around Haarlem are just a bit further than Amsterdam.
We are in children-friendly surroundings with a park nearby where you can play some soccer and lots of cycling paths. There are various playgrounds and within walking distance a children's farm where you can also buy some farm products in the summer and fall. Other sigths nearby are the museum of modern art Kroller-Moller, Arnhem, the national parks of the Veluwe and the royal palace of Soestduinen.
Closeby you will find a shopping area with supermarkets as well. We Leo and Maria (52+47) have 3 'kids', daugther (18 and a freshman at university, so won't always be travelling with us now), daugther (15) and son (13). We have done 6 successful swaps so far. We aim to find places with a homely atmosphere; having had too many unpersonal rentals, we are looking forward to new experiences and to share our place with others with the same wish.
In daily life we are working as a business consultant and grammar school teacher. We enjoy reading, travelling, theatre. The kids are more into listening to music and playing the piano and guitar, acting and singing.
We travel to Denmark quite often where we have a second home and to see family. If you are interested in Denmark, a swap with our house there is also a possibility.
